Something hit Jupiter.

That fireball is probably larger than Earth. Take a moment and thank Jupiter for being such a massive gravity well that keeps much of that crap from ever making it to the inner solar system. We might not be here if not for the giant vacuum cleaner out there!

Wow. I had never thought of Jupiter as such, but you are absolutely right. It’s interesting: for the past several weeks, Jupiter and Venus have been fairly close in the sky, and they have been the last to disappear in the early morning. Because on Sundays I am up at a very early time, I have had a great vantage, and I have understood why people in times past would revere the wanderers, or planets… and even worship them, They are beautiful, and when you take the time to truly consider them, they will take your breath away…and in the case of Jupiter, protect you from space-borne global catastrophe.
