Log of the Month for October, 2002

After everyone but the XO and Lt. Solitaire had left the conference room, J’zy stepped over to the Captain. “Sir, may I please have a minute of your time?”
Sullivan stopped, a harried look flitting across her features. Solitaire stood respectfully to the side, awaiting her next orders. “Of course, Doctor…. but if this is about the true nature of this mission, I’m sorry. I can’t tell you any more than I have.”
J’zy chuckled softly, “I figured that out Sir. But this has nothing to do with the true nature of the mission. Anyways the true nature of the Atlantis mission is clear enough: Decoy.” She smiled and paused a bit. “This is more about a little matter that needs to be cleared up. Your medical record indicates that you are in need of a physical Sir. Your last one was far too long ago.”
The Captain quirked a brow. “Too long ago? That can’t be possible.” She frowned. “Solitaire?”
Lieutenant Solitaire tapped at the PADD that seemed eternally attached to her hand. “Your last physical was two years ago, sir. You’ve missed three appointments due to various appointments and… activities.”
J’zy smirked a bit, she enjoyed this a little too much. “See Captain. You are to report for your physical within 48 hours, Sir. I will not let this lapse again.”
“48 hours!” Sullivan exclaimed with obvious dismay. “I have an away team leaving on an important mission and you expect me to waste time sitting in medical as you poke, prod, and scan me?” She stood taller. “Can’t you see that I’m a very busy woman?”
“Yes Sir, I realize you are. How long will it take to get from Starbase Alexandria to where we are going Sir?”
Sullivan smiled with a tinge of bitterness. “Approximately 3 hours…. and there is no *we*. I will be remaining on the station… where I belong.”
“Good, then I expect you to report to Dr. Crontaii in Main Medical unit within the 48 hours Sir. Otherwise I’ll be forced to hound you when we get back. And as seeing that physicals are required to remain on duty, it would be wise to get this out of the way as quickly as possible Sir.” J’zy smirked. The young doctor kept her eyes on Sulli, reading her body language and making sure that the Captain knew she was serious.
A slight huff of air punctuated the Captain’s irritation with her predictament as she expelled it from her lungs. If there was one thing she hated more than a physical, it was smug doctors. She inclined her head in a perfunctory nod. “Fine. I will see to it that I grace Conti with my… presence.”
She smiled at the response. “Good to hear Captain. If you would just come in for a physical, we wouldn’t have to play these cat and mouse games. And I will not be lax about these. Not like the last CMO, Sir.”
She looked to her aide and gestured for Solitaire to make a note of the addition to her schedule. “I do not play games, Doctor,” she said coolly. “I have far too many lives to account for.”
In a rather sarcastic, yet somehow slightly serious tone, the doctor replied, “I know that feeling, Sir.”
“Good,” she said as she absently fingered the elaborate earring that hung from her right ear.
“That is all I needed to see you about Sir. If you have nothing further for me, I need to prepare for the mission.”
With a nod and click of her well shined boots. “Prepare away, Doctor. And may the Prophets watch over you.”
Inclining her head, “Thank you Captain.” She headed over to exit the room.
As she turned and continued on her way to her next mission, she murmured to Solitaire, “Remind me to find something unpleasant for her…. soon.”
Over her shoulders, J’zy smirked at the Captain’s words that her keen Vulcan ears had picked up. “I heard that Captain.” With that she was out the door and quickly on her way to the main medical unit.
