Wobbling on the Edge of Discovery
Posted on December 15th, 2010 by Persephone Busard

So, here I am. A hundred ten yards underground, in the ruins of an unknown species, on a rising platform with an unknown power source, and yes, I’m scared. Theoretically something could malfunction, or NOT malfunction in a very key way, and we could explode. As an engineer, I’m naturally predisposed to be particularly sensitive to things about to explode. And yet…the only thing I can think of for longer than three seconds that ISN’T “My, but Doug looks nice today”, is that this is SO COOL. We’re operating machinery that hasn’t been touched in thousands of years, and not only is the power source NOT exhausted, but it seems to be working flawlessly. Who knows what a discovery of this magnitude could do for the Federation’s technology!

Answer: I will, as soon as I find an access hatch to dive into. Hee!

Diesel, ancient alien machinery, is there anything she can’t fix?
