Vibrant lilac trailed purposely through the wash of orange, a luminescence that contrasted against the crystal black depths of starlit night that filled the other half of the sky. The brilliance of the gas giant overhead permeated the atmosphere, tinting every visible thing in its soft glow. Little sound other than the Rucara’s steady wing beats and laboring breaths reached Kuari’s ears (Mental note, three days a week in a wind tunnel was poor substitute for the real thing). She had come to find the ever present hum of Atlantis a comfort over time, and the still silence of the wild moon added to the excitement of exploring the untamed.
Kuari surveyed the land below. McKnight’s squad was ensconced in the lush foliage of the valley, making good headway towards their objective. Forcing her wings to settle into a glide so she could turn her head, Kuari spotted the location and distance of the beam down site with the aid of her eyepiece HUD. She had seen little evidence of civilization so far, but time and nature had a way of erasing the efforts of its inhabitants. If a greater order had once existed and been visible from this altitude, it was invisible now.
What secrets lay beneath, just waiting to be discovered? Endless adventure and danger could await them if they chose to delve deeper, and if she had any say in the matter, Kuari intended to wing her way into the thick of it.
