During a routine planetary survey mission, the Atlantis crew takes a night off to enjoy their annual holiday party! This year, the event is set on the beach in Lost Harbor (though period-appropriate dress is not required) with a Polynesian theme, including a luau! There is beach volleyball, surfing, a variety of food including a pig and lots of fish being roasted in a pit filled with hot lava rocks and covered in palm fronds, ukulele music, plenty of mai tais, and, of course, leis for everyone! Mele Kalikimaka!

@Atlantis Crew: During a routine planetary survey mission, the Atlantis crew takes a night off to enjoy their annual holiday party! BEGIN MISSION

:: shirtless and dressed in a pair of board shorts, he leaps into the air and forcefully spikes a perfectly set up volleyball from Jester into the sand on the other side of the net. After landing, he nods and smiles at the hapless opponents before turning away to share a triumphant high five with Jester. :: @Cpt Kimiko Suzuki: And that's another W for us.

:: sits on the sidelines of the volleyball match cheering for her team, wearing a purple two-piece bathing suit and with her hair up in her usual elaborate braids. She sips a drink—bartender’s recommendation—and collects the lei of a person who had been rooting for the other volleyball team. She has several now. :: Any gamblers: Any more takers?

:: chuckles at Emily's gambling success, then looks to Jester :: @Cpt Kimiko Suzuki: Eh, we should probably take a break and let someone else have the court, ¿sí? :: grins at Emily as he takes a few steps closer to her, hands on his waist :: @LCdr Emily Acacia: Besides, I think you're running out of room for more leis around your neck. :: grins ::

:: in a black athletic one-piece, with her long black hair pulled back into a ponytail, Kimiko completes the triumphant high-five with @Lt Doc Navarro , though her eyes are unreadable behind her mirrored aviator shades. She nods at his suggestion and takes the opportunity to duck over to the bar to procure beverages for the trio::

:: has taken the long way and comes walking up the beach to the party. In the name of fitting in, he's found the loudest possible Hawaiian shirt, has a pair of cargo shorts that expose his San Francisco- untanned legs, burlap-strapped flip-flops, and a green patch of sunscreen on his nose. Order of priority being important, he heads over to the table where the Mai Tais await and grabs one, and then a lei, before wandering over to watch the volleyball game. Seeing the surfboards standing in the sand, he makes a mental note that he's got to catch some waves in a bit. But in the meantime, he grabs a sand chair, plops down, and leans back. ::

:: wanders over, somehow pairing a loose set of scrub pants with a dark blue Hawaiian shirt that’s buttoned up severely, paired with birks. Of course, he had applied sunscreen before coming, and Alec paused to see his boss and Navarro, grinning and shaking his head slightly. He headed over to the bar, getting a small glass of water, before spotting the engineer and approaching. :: @LCdr Jorvan Tav: May I sit? :: gestures to the empty chair next to the engineer with his empty hand. ::

:: nods at Doc’s suggestion that she has too many leis, the batch of then rustling as she does. She takes a few and wraps them around her wrists and ankles instead, completing the look. She smiles as Kimiko heads off for drinks :: @Lt Doc Navarro: You guys were awesome. Gotta make time for dancing, though.

:: Kate and Lexy enter the party through the holodeck's arch, resplendent in their matching outfits - hibiscus-print bikinis with fluttery red wrap skirts tied around their waists, ankle bracelets glinting above their bare feet and red hibiscus flowers tucked behind their ears - and between them hovers a large anti-grav cart covered with a concealing cloth in the same hibiscus print ::

:: In addition to the outfit that matches her wife's, Kate also wears the silver and pearl bracelet that had been a gift from Lexy, along with its matching earrings. She leads the cart over to the bar and triumphantly removes the cloth covering its payload — a large, three-tiered silver tray of the famous Wright Family Rumballs! This year, she even was given the honor of assisting Lexy in their creation, so she's quite proud. Kate raises her voice and half sings the announcement: :: @Atlantis Crew: Who wants some of the famous Wright Family Rumballs?! I dare say that Lexy outdid herself this year!

@LCdr Emily Acacia: Gracias, preciosa. :: smirks as Emily redistributes her leis :: Perfect. And you know that I always make time for dancing. :: catches her eyes and holds them for a moment before the captain's announcement rings out :: Oh, time for the rumballs!

:: looks up at Tallis :: @Ens Alec Tallis : Please. This is quite the game. :: turns his eyes back to the game at hand :: Back at SFHQ, there were some groups who would head down to San Diego for a game after shift. It brought out some great competition. And while I hear that in ancient times there were whole leagues that would take place indoors, this game really is best played on a beach.

:: he settles into a chair, sipping at his water carefully while humming as Tav spoke. :: @LCdr Jorvan Tav : Sounds fascinating. I never had enough time to join a game, was working most hours at SFM. :: he shrugged lightly, offering his hand. :: Ensign Alec Tallis; medical. Pleased to meet you.

:: smiles, slightly wryly, but still friendly :: @Ens Alec Tallis Ah, Dr. Tallis. I am Jorvan Tav. Previous doctor. Well, I guess I still have the decoration. You're being kind to my Sickbay, I assume?

:: having trotted on all fours into the holodeck a bit ago, fully nude as is her typical look when off duty, stands now at the edge of the holographic waves, listening to the sounds of water and taking in the scents of brine and kelp. An ear twitches at the sound of Kate's voice, the one of her voice heralding an announcement and she looks up. Rum balls! Loudly tooting her glee from the shore, she bounds over to the bar, large shining eyes on the tiered tray of chocolatey goodness made with love ::

:: snorts with a laugh :: @LCdr Jorvan Tav: It’s doing well; Dr. Acacia’s been keeping me busy since this is my first assignment. Anywhere. :: he startles at the trumpet from Kuari, nearly spilling his water over himself, and turns in his chair :: What…?

:: claps excitedly at the arrival of the rumballs, then makes her way over to the food to secure a few. She’s beaten to the table by several crewmates who she politely waits behind. Once a rumball is in her grasp she bites into it, shooting Wright a grin and a thumbs-up ::

:: Smiles as so many come for the rumballs, as they always do, but it feels even more special now that she's had a hand in making them. When she sees Kuari's approach, Kate grins and tosses a rumball at her friend, knowing that she'll easily catch it with a chomp! :: @Cdr Kuari: Catch!

:: coils her neck, eyes somewhat crossed and focused on the rumball, catching it as it flies through the air with a snap. She considers the taste for a moment, then her smile grows as she looks at both Kate and Lexy :: @Cdor Kathryn Harper @Cdr Alexis Wright Just as delicious as always! :: beams at the others who had arrived at the tray ::

:: finishes off her rumball swiftly and lets out a satisfied mmm before wiping her fingers on her bikini bottom to clean them, then stretches to look over the crowd until she spots @Lt Doc Navarro. She makes her way to him, pulling him towards the spot where people are dancing on the beach within view of the firedancers ::

:: He was deep into his enjoyment of a rumball when @LCdr Emily Acacia arrived to spirit him away to the makeshift dancefloor, but after a quick lick of his fingers and a chef's kiss to show his appreciation to @Cdr Alexis Wright he's ready to dance. Doc pulls Emily close to start the dance, but as its tempo picks up, he swings her out into a twirl! ::

:: Kate laughs and claps a little as Kuari catches the rumball, then samples one for herself; of course, several were tested while they were being made, but one can never test too thoroughly! Afterwards, she gratefully accepts a mai tai from the bartender and gravitates toward the pit-roasted pig, sampling that as well. ::

:: dances and swings to the beat, following Doc's lead and executing the twirl effortlessly after having danced with him so many times. She wears a big grin, enjoying the music and the food and the company. She keeps light on her feet, and loses one of the leis off her arm at one point during the movement. :: @Lt Doc Navarro: ¡Ay, perdí uno! ¡Está bien, sigue adelante!

:: blushes and smiles softly at the many rumball compliments, occasionally sneaking one into her mouth as she observes the festivities from near the bar ::

:: grins as he responds :: @LCdr Emily Acacia: ¡Eres la jefa! :: Doc obliges her, wondering how many more leis he can make her lose as they continue to dance, keeping his steps light throughout the song which can only be described as Polynesian Swing Fusion. Taking a hint from swing, he enjoys the usual role in that style of making his dance partner look as good as possible. As the dance concludes, he swings her out to the full length of both their outstretched arms, then snap-twirls her back against him on the song's final beat to gaze lovingly into her eyes as their bodies meet. ::

:: looks lovingly back into Doc’s eyes, panting slightly from the intensity of the dance and grinning ear to ear. Something grabs her attention, though, and she glances at the countdown clock. She points and exclaims :: @Lt Doc Navarro: ¡Vaya! ¡Casi es la hora! :: then looks for Kimiko in the crowd, and pulls Doc toward her, not that he’d need much convincing ::

@Atlantis Crew ACTION> The holodeck's sky rapidly darkens until the night's stars are bright against it. A single rocket shoots into the sky and explodes into a brilliant red and gold pattern revealing a number: 60. Five seconds later, another follows, this one a vivid green and white 55. Every five seconds, another, until the purple and gold 10...

:: grins as she looks up, watching her program execute as she makes her way back toward Lexy ::

@Atlantis Crew ACTION> At 10 seconds remaining until midnight, the fireworks' cadence quickens to one every second, their explosions overlapping the lingering afterglows of the preceding numbers in a rainbow of colors across the starscape. 10! 9! 8! 7! 6! 5! 4! Several rockets launch at once and after the countdown concludes with 3! 2! 1! – a multicolored HAPPY NEW YEAR 2402 fills the sky!

:: chants along with the crowd as the countdown goes… 3, 2, 1! Then claps and cheers excitedly at the display, and with a hopeful energy for the new year. :: All: Happy New Year! :: She turns and leans into a kiss with Doc, then turns again and gives Kimiko a quick peck on the lips as well, flushing slightly. The energy of the party is electric, and she loves it ::

:: sits and appreciates the dancing and other festivities within view, enjoying the atmosphere immensely with her crewmates. When the countdown starts, she gazes up at the fireworks, the exploding numbers shining in her large eyes in turn. By the time "fifty" comes around, she is standing with a big grin, and by "twenty-five" she is hopping up and down and counting loudly with the others. When the numbers speed up at "ten" she spreads her wings, catching all the light against their leathery light green membranes. She reads "the words at the end in the holographic sky and honks celebratory noises amidst the cheers and clapping ::

:: her rather stoic New Year display of enthusiasm is interrupted by a kiss from Emily, and in a rare display of emotion, the astonishment is evident on her face - she blinks at Emily for a brief moment, then turns her wide eyes to look at Zorro, silently inquiring about whether that actually happened ::

:: spotted Kate coming toward her in the crowd at the last moment, time having gotten away from her, and dashes to close the distance before the countdown ends, a bit giggly and disinhibited from the excessive consumption of rumballs; solidly plants a kiss on her wife as the fireworks explode around them ::

:: quirks an eyebrow and grins at Jester before answering with a kiss of his own on her lips, then smiles at both of them :: @LCdr Emily Acacia/@Cpt Kimiko Suzuki: ¡Feliz año nuevo!

:: when Lexy gets to her, Kate wraps both arms around her waist and pulls her close as they kiss, afterwards finding her eyes as if no one else was present as she quietly says :: @Cdr Alexis Wright: Happy new year, my love.

:: grins, face flushed slightly from a combination of rumballs and excitement. She looks around and takes it all in, saying a silent prayer for a fortuitous new year ::
