@Atlantis Crew MISSiON: After an extended shore leave of over three months, the Atlantis crew reunites as the ship prepares to depart from spacedock, where she was the beneficiary of multiple upgrades and repairs. Our mission begins by showing the crew coming back together, some having not seen each other for months, and returning to their duty stations to ensure Atlantis is ready to leave on another trip out into the black.

BEGIN MISSION

:: In the CO's quarters, mostly in uniform, but without the jacket and with her command red shirt not yet zipped up as she's fiddling with her hair in the bathroom mirror, humming to herself while trying to decide between putting it in the side-twist pony she's favored lately, or returning to the captainly updo she wore for years. The rather trivial nature of this is keeping her mind off of being back on Atlantis after all they've gone through, about to embark on yet another mission into the unknown. ::

:: at the bathroom mirror next to Kate, having already pulled her hair up into her customary on-duty high ponytail, now fiddling with her bangs to make sure they lay properly, taming stray hairs that no one but her will likely notice. She looks over at Kate pulling her hair between the two styles indecisively :: Kate: I think you should go with the updo. People are used to that. :: by commenting on this mundane matter, she is willfully distracting herself from the fact that she and her wife are no longer safe in their dream house on Risa, and are instead going out into potential danger. Again. ::

:: sits in her office in Sickbay, half empty coffee next to her as she taps away at her desk console. She’s working on finishing replies to all the messages from friends and family she slacked on during her shore leave, and taking some rare peace from the quiet of a Sickbay not full of staff ::

:: idly wondering if Commander T'Lira has beaten him to the helm, he arrives on the bridge after having dumped his bag in his quarters and takes a look around as he steps out of the turbolift, smiling and nodding a friendly greeting to all who are already here ::

:: is in his quarters, for the first time. It's not the CMO's quarters, but this will do just fine. Because he's back on Atlantis. Jorvan looks around, adjusts a picture on a shelf, and nods to himself before turning and heading for the door. ::

:: trots down the corridor, happy to be back in the familiar surroundings of what she has come to regard as home. It's always bittersweet, knowing that she can no longer embrace the skies and must make do with the muted scents of the air-conditioned enclosed spaces that make up her ship's living area. She likes to think of it as an elaborate cave system, a snug and proper fortress, and the exits are only closed temporarily for safety. Also, the holodecks help. Stopping by a door, she reaches for the call button when the doors swish open. Her large eyes widen slightly further in surprise, then she smiles happily :: @LCdr Jorvan Tav: Hey! How are you settling in?

:: Taking her wife's suggestion, she puts her hair back into the captainly updo and holds it in place with one hand while she adds few bobby pins with the other. Once she's satisfied with it, she nods to Lexy in the mirror and smiles. :: @Cdr Alexis Wright: Yes, I think you are correct. Back to the classic style it is, then! :: zips up her uniform shirt and pins a commodore's insignia to each side of the collar, then smooths the shirt down as she gives herself an appraising look in the mirror ::

:: finishes her coffee, forgets, then reaches for it again and finds it empty. She gets up and replicates herself a new one, getting sidetracked by a conversation with nurse Flowers, chatting about how their shore leave went ::

:: is busy with his work, getting his desk setup and organized, while waiting for fruther instructions ::

:: sitting behind his desk - HIS desk - in the tactical offices. Pouring over tons of reports, weapons upgrades, maintenance observations, crew records, and the latest and greatest tactical maneuvers from the Marine Corps' central office ::

:: Kate retrieves her gold-trimmed flag officer's uniform jacket and puts it on, taking a moment to smooth it and pick off a couple of bits of wayward cat floof before zipping it up and inspecting herself in the mirror once more. Mainly to herself, she whispers. :: There she is. Commodore Kathryn Harper, reporting for duty.

:: nods and listens attentively to Nurse Flowers's story about having dinner with their family in Paris, then transporting home to Michigan for the afterparty. She can't help but take a moment to marvel at the connectedness of the modern world, and comments :: Flowers: It's so nice when most of my family is on Earth, and it doesn't matter where, we can meet up. :: another nurse comes along and grabs Nurse Flowers's attention, so Emily excuses herself and heads back into her office. She goes back to the letter she had been writing, giving it the essential finishing touches. ::

:: chuckles silently to herself as she pulls on her own, less-fancy jacket :: @Cdor Kathryn Harper Ready to head to the Bridge, Commodore?

:: grins and playfully returns the tone :: @Cdr Alexis Wright: Yes, Commander, I do believe I am. :: takes one more look in the mirror before heading out of the bathroom, but she pauses to speak to Lexy as they're passing through the living room :: Thank you, Rosie, for all the support you have given me over the years. You make being in command so much easier. :: drops a quick kiss on her wife's lips, her fingertips lingering on Lexy's cheek for a moment before she turns to leave ::

:: once Kate turns away, a complex series of emotions plays briefly across her face; she quickly shakes it off and takes a quick detour to pet Anna and then darts out to the corridor to join her spouse on the short trip to the turbolift ::

:: She enters the turbolift and directs it to the bridge, using the privacy of the brief ride to give Lexy's hand a quick squeeze. As the ride ends, in the quick moment before the doors open, she takes a deep breath and consciously returns to her command demeanor. Once the doors part, she purposefully strides through them onto the bridge and looks around to see who is already here. ::

:: finally finishes writing her letters and looks at the time :: Self: Ah, right about time. :: she logs out of her desk console, drops off her empty coffee cup in the replicator on the way out, pauses to answer a few questions, then finds herself on a turbolift headed for the bridge. She arrives and smiles at everyone on her way to her station. ::

:: Although he technically has the bridge, he's sitting at the helm running through pre-departure systems checks when he hears the turbolift open and turns to see the Commodore and Commander. Doc stands up and gestures to the bridge with a grand wave as he smiles. :: @Cdor Kathryn Harper/@Cdr Alexis Wright: Welcome back, Capitana and Commander! It's good to see you both, and of course, the bridge is yours, Capitana. Departure preparations are proceeding apace, and there's nothing out of the ordinary to report.

:: smiles widely and nods :: @Lt Doc Navarro: Thank you, Zorro! It's good to see you, too. :: Kate walks to the center seat and arrives as Emily emerges from the turbolift. Sensing her friend's arrival, she turns and beams at the doctor. :: @LCdr Emily Acacia: Welcome back, Emily! I trust that your shoreleave was good?

:: gives Zorro and Emily both a small smile and a wave as she crosses to Main Sci/Ops, then gets straight down to business by sitting and unlocking the station, initiating routine pre-departure diagnostics, and flipping through reports from her subordinates in preparation to give her own report when it is requested ::

:: grins back at her friends, nodding to Kate's question :: @Cdor Kathryn Harper: It was wonderful! Very refreshing--I even got to see Averi in person for once! :: she refers to her older sister by her nickname, but of course Kate knows who that is :: How was yours?

:: thinks for a moment :: @Cdr Kuari: Imagine if you loved where you lived during your adolescent years, and you were to return to that old house after growing up. Sure, your parents have renovated and updated here and there, but... it's home. I've missed this place.

:: nods in agreement as she contemplates :: @LCdr Jorvan Tav: Yes, I've missed it too, and I've only been gone for one shore leave. The feeling must be so much more for you! :: steps away from the door as they begin to walk the corridor towards the turbolift :: Ready for your first shift?

@Cdr Kuari: I am! It's a fascinating combination of the nostalgic and moving forward. I'm home, but tackling a whole new area of my career. Funny thing is, I've been equating and differentiating between biology and engineering. For all of the differences, there are certain similarities as well. :: stops at a comfortable distance from the turbolift doors until it arrives, then they step in. :: @Turbolift: Engineering.

TL: Bridge. :: curls her tail around her feet as she sits in the lift and they begin moving :: @LCdr Jorvan Tav: Yes, like the ship is a living, breathing thing, and repairing is like healing, right? I can see that!

@Cdr Kuari: And the body, with similar functions to those we mimic when we build things. Usually, the body being much more efficient. Usually. :: chuckles.

@LCdr Emily Acacia: Oh, it must have been wonderful to see her again! Our leave was quite nice with lots of home time and time with our families, and even an old friend or two. :: lingers by the center seat, but doesn't sit down yet ::

:: gives Emily an affectionate smile before he sits back down at the helm and begins going over the results of the navigation and propulsion systems checks ::

:: laughs as well as the turbolift slows, and the doors swish open to reveal the bridge :: @LCdr Jorvan Tav: I look forward to hearing all about your first day, maybe we can meet up for lunch. See you then? :: steps out of the lift ::

@Cdr Kuari See you then! :: smiles as the Turbolift doors close and begins the trip to Main Engineering. ::

:: still smiling broadly, trots towards the center of the bridge, looking around at everyone, seeing @LCdr Emily Acacia, @Cdr Alexis Wright, @Lt Doc Navarro and finally @Cdor Kathryn Harper ::

:: returns every smile sent her way, but focuses on Kate’s answer and nods approvingly, she hovers by the counselor’s chair but also doesn’t sit yet :: @Cdor Kathryn Harper: Glad to hear it! I think this time off was what everyone really needed. It always makes my job easier. :: she chuckles, then turns as Kuari approaches :: @Cdr Kuari: Hello! How was your shore leave?

@LCdr Emily Acacia: It was wonderful, thank you! How was yours? :: arrives next to Harper and sits on the floor in front of her seat, making herself take up less space ::

:: smiles at that :: @Cdr Kuari: Oh, it was great! I was just saying, my older sister was on Earth at the same time as me for once. So we finally got an updated three-sisters-photo. And everyone’s feeling refreshed. It’s nice to be back.

:: enters the bridge from the turbolift, having gotten unpacked, and familiarized himself with the medbay setup, Alec barely pauses to glance around, noting the occupied stations, before taking the seat at the empty secondary medical console, quiet as can be. He didn't want to interrupt the conversations ongoing. ::

:: grins at Emily as Kuari approaches :: @LCdr Emily Acacia: The time off was exactly what the doctor ordered, I think. :: it hasn't been long since she's seen her good friend and XO — since Kuari came to visit them on Risa, there's little catching up to do, but the moment is a happy reunion for her anyway :: @Cdr Kuari: Welcome back, Kuari! :: smiles and takes her seat, running the palms of her hands over the chair's arms as she does ::

:: smiles at Emily's good news, then at Kate's greeting, her move to her chair prompting Kuari to walk onto her own backless seat to the side of center, turn around and lie down, feeling at home :: @Cdor Kathryn Harper: It's good to be back, Captain!

:: shares a smile with Kuari :: @Cdr Kuari: Yes, it is good to be back, isn't it? :: slowly exhales and looks around the bridge before nodding contentedly to herself ::

:: takes her new usual seat in the counselor’s chair, logging into the console and checking that all her menus and settings are where she likes them. With that settled, she also looks around the bridge, taking in the scene. She smiles and waves at @Ens Alec Tallis ::

:: also looks around the bridge, noticing a new face at the medical station, then recalls hearing a door swish as she was greeting officers. This reminds her that she should check in with crew boarding and peeks down at her small side console. Putting her weight on one elbow, she pokes at the panel to sign in ::

:: glances around, spots his CO, and returns her smile and wave with a small one of his own, before letting his gaze sweep across the bridge. He had heard about the Xovul mission, knew the names and standings of his new crew, but when it came down to it, he sincerely hoped everyone was a-okay with medical, and that no medical emergencies happened until a few months into their travels. The draconic figure of Commander Kuari also caught his eye, and he gave a slight nod to acknowledge the Commander. ::

:: sitting at his desk, perusing tactical reports, and notices the time :: Self: Son of a... :: stands up, straightens his uniform and bolts like bat out of hell through the office to the corridor :: Self: Pay attention, Scott... :: enters the TL :: Bridge!

:: nervous foot taping as the TL hums to deck one, steps out onto the bridge and assumes the tactical console ::

:: absently greets people as they file onto the Bridge, remaining largely focused on her console ::

:: she notices @1Lt Scott Ammora taking the tactical console for the first time as Acting Chief, and gives him an encouraging nod ::

:: is already wearing a smile from Tallis’s acknowledgement, but it grows by a point when she sees Scott as well. She takes one last look around the bridge, happy to be back among such kind and capable faces, then looks to Kate for clues as to the plan for today ::

:: After a few minutes checking various reports on her PADD, she glances up and catches Emily's look, then scans the bridge once more. Kuari and Emily are at her side, Lexy and Doc are on the front consoles, and that makes her feel like this is exactly where she's supposed to be. Even with Scott now in the lead at the tactical station instead of Ryleigh, all of this feels right and proper. Kate nods and smiles to Emily before turning to Kuari. :: @Cdr Kuari: Commander, are we ready to depart?

:: eyes still trained on her console, smiles at the question and looks up :: @Cdor Kathryn Harper: Aye, Captain, all aboard, stations report ready.

:: arrives at Engineering and as the doors open peers at the warp core. Over how many light years has it carried him over the years, yet he so rarely got to see it... and when he did, it was often under circumstances where he couldn't look on it with the appreciation it had deserved. Tav continues into Engineering and walks to an empty console and begins scanning through the engine's statistic, which, of course, coming out of spacedock, is to be expected... though some of the upgrades can't be fully dialed in until they go to warp and slipstream for the first time. ::

@Cdr Kuari: Right on schedule! :: grins in anticipation :: Well then, I think that we should get back out there, don't you? :: turns toward the Ops console as she settles back into her seat :: @Cdr Alexis Wright: Please request our departure clearance, Commander, and transfer to internal power once we have it.

@Cdor Kathryn Harper : Aye, Captain. :: touches her hand to her earpiece and makes the usual routine request for departure clearance, which is quickly granted, and transfers all systems to internal power as the umbilicals detach and pull away, freeing Atlantis for departure :: @Cdor Kathryn Harper /Bridge : Departure clearance granted. Transfer to internal power complete. All systems nominal.

:: sitting straight and proud in the center seat; this never gets old for her :: @Cdr Alexis Wright: Thank you, Commander. :: shifts her gaze to Zorro :: @Lt Doc Navarro: Very well, then. Take us out, Mr. Navarro.

@Cdor Kathryn Harper: With pleasure, capitana. :: Shifts his fingers and begins to back Atlantis out of her berth as onlookers pause around Spacedock's internal windows to observe the great ship's departure. Bombastic orchestral music begins to swell as Atlantis's bow lines up with the spacedoors and Doc engages forward thrust to expertly pilot the ship through the doors, revealing the grand vista of Earth orbit on the main viewer. With a smile of satisfaction, he sets Atlantis on the departure vector given by traffic control. :: We are free and clear to navigate, capitana.

:: had a moment of slight exhilaration when the call came from the bridge to transfer to internal power. Sure. He's spent years on starships, but this was his first time doing it... back home. So Tav, the absolute sap for being back on Atlantis, had made it so. Now, as the thrusters rev up and they begin moving, and eventually they clear Spacedock, it's time to make all of these procedures old hat. It's still exhilarating for both beings who make up Jorvan Tav. ::

:: The Captain smiles somewhat wistfully to herself, missing the whole process of being the one to pilot a ship out of Spacedock, but at least she was fortunate enough to enjoy that plenty of times, and she still does get her turn at the helm now and then. For now, the honor has passed to the next generation. With a flourish, Kate taps her chair's arm console, sending some spatial coordinates to the helm console. :: @Lt Doc Navarro: Calculate a slipstream solution to those coordinates. In the meantime, warp speed.

:: enters the destination coordinates for the navigation computer to work on, then turns the ship toward them for the initial warp flight required before entering slipstream :: @Cdor Kathryn Harper: Warp speed, aye, stand by for slipstream. :: engages the warp drive ::

:: settles back into her chair, getting comfortable and soaking in the good vibe on the bridge. She smiles as the ship jumps to warp, watching the viewscreen along with everyone else ::

:: lies contentedly on her chair base just off the captain's center position. Embarking on a new mission always carries excitement along with it, and in many cases a general sense of well-being, with everything as it should be. There are always losses of course, and Kuari contemplates on the most recent ones briefly, knowing that it is all a part of life. Raising her wings upward in a slow stretch, she breathes in deeply, preparing for what is to come ::

:: looks around to her various crewmates as she assesses how they’re feeling, and is happy to find that people are mostly relaxed. She’s excited to get started on a new mission, and contribute however she can. ::

:: is checking paperwork, glancing around the bridge carefully, before turning his attention back to his console ::

:: Her smile turns from wistful to contented, and she pats the chair arm as faithful Atlantis enters warp. Looking around the bridge, she realizes that this is exactly where she still wants to be. ::

ACTION> Heading out into the black, Atlantis warps away from Earth and enters slipstream shortly afterwards.
