CO: The icy terrestrial planet is the next closest.

:: moves up to the console, looking at all the different functions, his eyes trying to remember all of the protocols ::

:: peers around the turbolift at a place where maybe an air regulator might be over-juiced or whatever the hell could’ve caused that ::

:: considers for a moment :: From hot to cold, then? Very well! NAV: Take us there, Zorro.

:: boards the turbolift and nods to D’bryn on their way up ::

Self: Fucking screw it. :: tugs her hair out of the holder and lets it down before stepping up to her console and logging in ::

:: realizes the turbolift has already arrived at the bridge while she was distracted; acts casual and heads for the engineering station ::

CO: Aye aye, capitana. :: lays in a course and engages the warp drive ::

:: steps onto the bridge but doesn’t head for her station, instead approaching the command circle ::

:: looks at Zoe:: Zoe: ::nods:: Ensign.

:: glances at Ammora :: TAC2: Eyes on your console, Lieutenant. I know my hair's interesting, but your console is more important

CO/XO: Is Commander Kuari available for her physical?

:: smiles in greeting to Emily, then looks over to Kuari ::

:: nods back, almost responds before Grey tells him to keep his eyes on the console ::

:: sits down at the station, does all the routine stuff, but then checks the turbolift statuses ::

:: from her station, looks up at Acacia's approach in greeting, then looks at Harper as if for permission :: CO: I think so.

:: nods to Kuari, knowing how important it is for them to set an example in this ::

:: turbolift systems report no errors ::

:: smiles and hops off her chair, just about eye level with Acacia while on all fours :: MED: I'm all yours, then!

:: smiles and gestures toward the turbolift to allow Kuari to pass and then follows after her ::

:: looks at Grey, nods, goes back to what he was doing ::

ACTION> The ship completes the short warp flight to the outer portion of this planetary system.

:: trots dutifully into the turbolift, turning and sitting, wrapping her tail around her feet as usual so it's not stepped on ::

:: guides the ship on a standard approach to the planet ::

:: steps into the turbolift after her and looks up out of habit :: TL: Sickbay.

:: begins preliminary scans ::

:: looks around the bridge, careful to keep his eyes down ::

ACTION> A bright white world appears on the main viewer, slowly getting larger as we approach.

:: looks up briefly at the world in the viewscreen, looks back down at his console ::

:: is too distracted to take much interest in the new planet, draws up the schematics for a turbolift compartment because she can’t remember it off the top of her head ::

:: stands and narrows her eyes at the main viewer ::

:: looks over at Zoe, then back at his console ::

:: smiles and waves for Kuari to follow as the turbolift opens on their deck. She leads the way towards sickbay ::

:: trots after Acacia down the corridor ::

ACTION> As we come in to range, the planet reveals itself to be completely iced over.

:: eases Atlantis into a standard science orbit ::

:: leads Kuari into sickbay, past the main biobeds, to the full body scanner off in the corner. There’s a padded table, which Acacia pats to indicate Kuari should sit on :: XO: So, anything to report?

:: thinks :: Okay, air circulation intake is up around the light... Regulator is about as simple as a regulator can be, and is set for environmental neutrality, just like every other common area. Why the hell did it just blow air at me?

:: sees the reading on his console of the level of water on the surface - all ice - looks up from his console at the viewscreen, then back to his console ::

:: hops readily up onto the biobed and lies down on her belly :: MED: Nothing out of the ordinary. I feel fine. :: is already looking curiously around at the instruments and such ::

:: furrows brow so hard she runs the risk of pulling a muscle ::

:: looks at Zoe, looking... frazzled ::

CSO: It looks rather cold, but is there anything interesting in that cold?

:: planet-talk filters into her attention; looks up at the ice planet on screen :: Self: Whoa...

CO: This is a terrestrial world with continents and oceans, but they are all covered in many kilometers of ice. It appears as though there are water oceans under the ice, and some evidence of cryovolcanism.

:: looks at Grey, looks around the bridge ::

:: moves to Zoe :: Zoe: Hey, uh... you okay?

:: perks :: CSO: Cryovolcanism is interesting!

CO: Indeed.

:: bandwidth is too narrow to register Ammora :: CSO: Ice volcanos? Those are a thing?

:: smiles :: XO: That’s good. :: she taps at a nearby console, the screen spitting out numbers and graphs, all defaulting to zero :: XO: Alright, keep as still as you can. :: she warns, then slowly slides the table Kuari is on into the scanner chamber, bathing Kuari in a blue light from all directions ::

:: freezes, doing her best to be a statue, her eyes wide ::

ENG: Those are, indeed, a thing. A weird thing, but a thing.

::is at her bridge console, busy doing the boring but necessary sickbay reports from the last few days, looking up occasionally at the planet being surveyed::

:: stares at Zoe ::

:: barely gives Scott a glance at moving through the bridge, focused intently on her own console ::

:: realizes Ammora is standing next to her console :: TAC2: Uhh, hey?

:: ponders :: I wonder what happened here to cause it all to freeze?

:: leans into her ear :: Zoe: You okay?

:: furrows brow even harder :: TAC2: Uh, yeah. Are you okay?

:: steps back slightly :: Zoe: Yeah, sorry.

:: wants to say Why is everyone asking me if I’m okay? but holds back ::

:: stands outside the glowing chamber and taps at the console, taking readings of Kuari’s various internal systems :: XO: You’re doin’ great, just a little longer.

CO: It's hard to be certain with limited data, but it appears that this is not this planet's original orbit.

:: does a second glance and moves back to his tactical console ::

:: remains still, hoping she's doing a good job ::

:: considers that for a moment, nodding to herself :: CSO: So it would have started out closer to the suns and ended up out here, freezing everything.

:: gets the last reading and double checks that she got them all, then slowly pulls the bed back out of the chamber, the blue light powering down :: XO: Alright! That’s the worst of it. You can sit up now.

:: nods :: CO: Precisely. Something happened to fling it way out here. But the internal radiation is enough to keep some liquid seawater under the ice crust, for now at least.

:: remembers how incredibly statistically lucky habitable planets are, what with all the orbit-shifting and waterworlds and the whatnot ::

:: watches Zoe ::

:: regards the planet on the screen for a few more moments, hands on her hips :: CSO: How would you like to proceed here?

:: goes back to his assessment of the phaser arrays ::

:: wants to be just as excited about the ice planet as she was about the other, but is too distracted by the turbolift anomaly ::

:: turns her head, puzzled :: MED: What was bad about it? :: remains lying down, knowing sitting up makes her head way too high for anyone to reach while on a biobed ::

CO: Well, we COULD just do detailed scans from orbit... but cryovolcanism is really cool, pun intended.

:: types out a message to Zoe, sending it console-to-console :: Zoe: What's up?

:: shoots her a goofy grin at the pun ::

:: grins back ::

:: gets message, rolls her eyes, leaves it on read ::

:: chuckles :: XO: Exactly, it’s not so bad. Some people just don’t like the full body scanner. :: she takes a PADD and pulls up Kuari’s chart, comparing her results to her last physical ::

CSO: So you are saying we need to go see a cryovolcano for ourselves? :: her question slightly hopeful in tone ::

::studiously ignores the lieutenant and ensign making googly eyes at each other in the corner:: Self: Ergh. ::keeps typing::

:: looks at Zoe, gets the hint, goes back to his phaser assessment ::

:: looks around again ::

:: pulls the bed Kuari is on to the side, aligning it with the pedals of the stamina testing device on the wall :: XO: Alright, roll over and put your feet up here.

:: nods with exaggerated solemnity :: CO: I'm afraid so, Captain.

CSO: Then if science demands it, we shall. Is that atmosphere breathable, or is it cold enough that we will need envirosuits regardless?

:: sees a discrepancy in the torpedo inventory ::

CO: Oh, it's definitely more than cold enough for envirosuits.

:: tucks a wing and rolls over, wiggling until she is lined up with the bed again puts her feet where told ::

CSO: Alright then. Hmmm... :: looks around the bridge ::

:: crosses to Grey ::

Grey: Captain, a moment, please?

:: glances up, a questioning light in her eyes :: TAC2: Yes?

:: takes notes on the PADD, nodding :: XO: Start pedaling whenever you’re ready.

CTO: I'd like permission to do a count of our torpedo inventory. I think that we don't have an accurate count.

CTO: I will, of course, require security on this away team.

:: pedals, slowly getting her rhythm, then has at it ::

:: closes his eyes ::

ENG: And, we may need engineering to ensure that the envirosuits continue to function.

:: glances to Harper, nodding before turning back to Ammora :: TAC2: Permission granted. You have fifteen minutes, check in with Lieutenant Everly for numbers as of last stock-count.

CO: Was just about to volunteer for that, ma’am. :: nods ::

:: grins at Zoë :: ENG: I had a feeling.

CTO: Captain, if I may make a request?

:: takes notes as Kuari goes, watching her scan results on a nearby screen ::

::finds herself drifting from time to time back to the Gencodian planet, remembering snippets from the lost year; the hotel garden, her walks in the forest along the river, exploring the library... ::

CO: With your permission, I’ll go take a gander at those now, before we take off.

:: blinks :: TAC2: You... may, though this request may or may not be granted, depending on what is asked.

ENG: Granted.

CMO: How about you, doctor? Would you like to see a cryovolcano in person?

:: pedals until her mouth opens, but because she's upside-down on her back her tongue lolls towards her eye ::

:: stands up and heads to the turbolift ::

CTO: I'd prefer to delegate my investigation of the torpedoes to another officer, and offer my services to the Captain per her request for a security presence.

::snaps out of her reverie:: CO: Oh, sure. Sounds interesting... what's a cryovolcano exactly?

CMO: An ice volcano!

:: pants upside-down, still pedaling ::

::tilts her head, thinking about that one for a moment:: CO: Fascinating... Sure, I'll go.

:: smiles at Ammora, glad to see him prioritizing his duties :: TAC2: Request granted, Lieutenant. Contact Lieutenant Everly, he'll find someone to manage the torpedo-count while we're with the Captain.

:: smiles, still taking notes :: XO: You’re doing great!

Turbolift: Deck 6. :: looks up at where the air intake is supposed to be, as the doors close ::

All: Alright then! To the transporter room. NAV: You have the bridge, Zorro.

:: nods :: CTO: Thank you, ma'am.

:: holds her hand up near the light, doesn’t feel any air ::

:: hands her console back over to Ensign Gunnarsdottir ::

Maybe air outflow? :: kneels, feels around base around the floor; no air ::

:: manages a smile, but it's sort of lost in the panting, still pedaling away ::

:: turns and nods to the captain :: CO: Yes ma'am.

:: stands up, the brow-furrowing really getting out of hand, as the doors open ::

:: rises, finally managing to tie her hair back into its usual bun and following the rest of the away team ::

:: enters the TL and waits for the rest ::

::grins, stands up and shuts down her console, happy to leave the boring reports for another time::

::goes to the turbolift::

:: sends a message on his console to Everly regarding the photon torpedo inventory ::

:: thinks as she walks :: Okay, maybe I’m losing my marbles. Or the Light has me so freaked out that I only think I’m losing my marbles, and am psyching myself out thusly.

:: keeps an eye on the time, wondering when Kuari will tire ::

:: scoots into the TL before the doors close ::

:: gets to where the envirosuits are stored :: I mean, jeezy-creezy, I’m thinking the word ‘thusly’.

:: Directs the TL to deck six ::

:: exits and leads them to the envirosuit storage ::

:: whips out tricorder, starts checking the envirosuits ::

:: exits the TL, following the Captain down to the environsuits ::

:: most are good, but a couple have environmental regulators that need diagnostic and readjustment ::

:: walks in and finds D'bryn at work :: ENG: How do they look?

:: follows a step behind Grey ::

:: pants heavily now, wishing she was more in shape, feeling she would fail as a marine since she was promoted ::

CO: Don’t use this one or this one. :: points :: Otherwise, I think the rest are good.

:: nods and approaches one that should fit her ::

:: looks at Zoe, perking an eyebrow ::

:: nods, offering more encouragement :: You’ve passed your previous time!

:: catches the perked eyebrow, gives Scott a, What? expression as she picks out a suit to put on ::

:: steps in through the back and it closes behind her ::

:: picks out an envirosuit and steps into it as well ::

:: turns around and flexes all the joints while waiting for everyone else to suit up ::

::chooses an EV suit, carefully avoiding the ones that D'bryn pointed out::

:: puts on her own suit, dropping her hair into a low ponytail ::

:: checks her air and sees good flow ::

:: doesn't last much longer and stops, panting like a rabbit now, her chest vibrating up and down, her feet poised up in the air aimlessly, her lolled tongue jumping around over her lips ::

:: sets compression parameters on his suit ::

::zips up the suit after making sure the controls work, and grabs an emergency medkit out of a cabinet near the suits, to complete her ensemble::

:: pulls an enviro-reinforced tricorder out of a locker ::

:: quickly flips over onto her front, not liking panting while on her back, and continues until she slows down, licking her now dry mouth ::

:: tromps into the TR, triggering the suit's comms :: +XO+ Harper to Kuari. Be advised that I am taking an away team to the planet for scientific data-gathering.

:: takes a hypospray and prepares it :: XO: I just need a blood sample, and you’re all done.

:: steps up on to the transporter pad, knowing that Lexy has a location in mind for their beamdown ::

:: follows the rest of the AT to the TR ::

:: touches his standard-issue phaser on his right hip, joins the AT on the pad ::

:: takes a breath ::

:: follows the captain to the TR ::

:: straightens up, her mouth closing but elbows still on the bed. Of course, they would be exploring their next destination and she's totally missing out, but she can't be in everything after all :: +CO+ All right. Good luck out there!

::fastens her helmet onto her suit with a hiss, and waits for departure::

:: presses the hypospray to Kuari’s neck, taking the sample of blood. She takes it out, handing it off to a lab tech :: XO: Alright. :: she smiles lightly :: Sorry you’re missing out, but you can head back to the bridge now.

:: grinning in excitement inside her helmet ::

:: once they're all up on the transporter pad :: TC: Energize.

:: looks at Acacia, surprised :: MED: That's all? Done already?

XO: Unless you have questions or something to discuss, yes.

ACTION> The away team shimmers away and rematerializes on a vast icy plain with a mountain just ahead, oddly stark in how abruptly it juts from the surface. The light is perhaps 30% of full sun on Earth, and the sky is cloudless, with no wind to fight.

:: thinks back to her last physical, deciding that it was much the same :: MED: No, I think I'm good. Well...I suppose I have one question.

:: stops taking notes and gives Kuari her full attention :: XO: Yes?

ACTION> Upon closer inspection, a chunky slurry can be seen oozing its way down the mountainside, forming a river nearby.

MED: I...suppose you would have already brought it to my attention, or Harper's, but...after we left the planet, the one we spent a year on...you haven't found anything new, have you? :: has dropped to a more friendly way of speaking, as towards a friend rather than a collegue :: To explain...physically...why our bodies seem to be the same, even though we remember it, like it was a dream?

::shifts her feet on the ground, her boots squeak-crunching in the icy cold::

:: notices the temperature and is quite glad for the suit, as she's definitely a warm weather gal ::

+AT+ The reason for cryovolcanism is all about the heat in the oceans below us and a pressure differential. The ocean below acts like a magma and comes erupting out, eventually forming cone-shaped mountains like this.

:: looks on at the icy river, positively freaked out that such a thing can even exist ::

+CO+ Yep, Cochrane was born in Montana. Bozeman is where he launched his first warp ship from.

:: looks around, giving a light shrug :: XO: We’ve almost entirely cleared out, last I checked we have two patients left and they’re doing well. It was chaotic for a while, but we managed.

:: looks up and around the gelid landscape, half-expecting to see some phantom shape like she did on the waterworld ::

:: pulls a geologist's pickaxe out of the small pack that she brought ::

::stares curiously at the icy river::

:: looks up at the two suns in the sky, small and distant despite their giant size, and marvels at how strange it looks to see them touching ::

:: is starting to worry that the rest of the away team is getting bored and feels personally responsible, but is running out of things to say that isn't just babbling scientific gobbledygook ::

+CSO+ What’s the water like beneath the surface? Can it support life? Any micro-organisms on this one?

::is actually not bored, but isn't a geologist either, so doesn't have the same level of interest as someone who has studied that field. But the 'blorping' volcano is still cool::

:: checks the scans of the planet and the member count of the away team ::

:: nods :: +AT+ The water in the river here contains a few microbes that are rapidly dying in this cold. So yes, I think we can presume that the water below supports some microbial life.
