:: absentmindedly reaches for the spot where her pendant would be, has to remind herself that she has to take it off for duty hours now ::

:: relaxes, then takes a breath and initiates a cursory system scan :: CO: Initiating initial scans.

:: starts performing routine systems check after coming out of slipstream :: Alright, lady. Just making sure none of your bolts are loose.

XO: This one is yours, Kuari. It is time for my physical, so I will be in sickbay.

:: frowns :: CO: Oh. It can't wait?

XO: Doctor's orders. :: smiles halfheartedly ::

:: smiles back, mirroring the halfhearted smile and watches her go ::

All: Enjoy the exploration! :: exits into the turbolift and directs it to sickbay ::

:: looks at his PADD, realizes he's an hour late :: Son of a bitch...

:: finishes her preparation and waits around for a few minutes, perking and looking up when she senses someone outside the sickbay door ::

:: turns back to the main viewer, listening in for Wright's update from sensors ::

:: after having paused outside the door, she walks into sickbay wearing a smile like she doesn't mind this at all ::

+CTO+ Captain Grey, I'm so sorry, I misread my duty assignment, I'm on my way!

:: runs out of his quarters, knocking two people over in the process :: Sorry!

:: smiles sympathetically, gesturing to the patient bed pulled out of the full body scanner :: CO: Thanks for coming.

Self: Interesting. XO: Contact binary star system, with four planets - three terrestrial and one gas giant. Of the terrestrials, only one is in the habitable zone of the star, but it looks to be covered with water. The other two appear to be an ice-covered planet and a planet covered in dense clouds. We'd have to get closer for more details.

MED: Of course. It is the duty of the entire crew to stay up to date on our physicals. :: sits down on the biobed ::

:: arrives at the turboflit, next to a crewmember :: Hi.

:: wears a contented smile and nods, eyes bright :: CSO: Relay to Mr. Navarro whichever route looks most efficient, or whichever most interesting.

:: awkward silence... slamming his finger into the button, over and over and over again ::

:: sees a string of numbers on the LCARS that otherwise would’ve gone unnoticed, has the strangest sensation of déjà vu ::

:: begins with a standard tricorder scan, noting the results idly. She offers another smile, hoping to be comforting as she knows no one really likes this :: CO: Alright, lay down. I’ll make it quick.

:: pushes the person he's standing next to aside as the turbolift arrives :: Deck Seven!

:: pushes the biobed into the full body scanner, a cramped space that bathes the Captain in a blue light. The Doctor taps at the screen, running scans system by system, the machine making a whirring buzzing sound ::

No, it's not fine. You're dead meat. You'll be scrubbing rifle batteries for the rest of the mission.

:: looks at how they are lined up with the system and the positions of the planets and transmits what she feels is the most efficient order over to the helm, starting with the cloud-covered world ::

:: finishes up and shuts the scanner down, pulling the biobed out and freeing the Captain :: CO: Alright! Just a few more things. Do you have anything to report? Any symptoms or anything you want looked at?

:: forces herself to not fall back into her old pilot's reaction of automatically saying no and thinks for a moment ::

:: walks into the security offices likes he owns the place... he doesn't... but he's trying ::

:: nods, happy to find something unusual and interesting. After all, that's the reason they explore ::

:: briefly turns back to her console as they get closer to the stars and puts a view of them up on the main viewer ::

:: chuckles as well, making a note :: CO: Well that’s good. I’ll make sure you’re stocked up on that medicine, maybe keep it in your ready room so it’s on hand.

Kyler Everly> :: turns from his desk, attention fixed on the new arrival :: TAC2: You're late. Captain Grey told me to expect you, you'll be serving down here with me for this week.

:: brings the ship out of warp and approaches the planet, its sunlit half awash in bright blue light ::

:: checks her notes and prepares a hypospray :: CO: Last thing I need is a small blood sample.

MED: Of course. :: inclines her neck, offering it to the incoming hypo ::

:: turns from her console, lets Byrne know she’s heading up to the bridge, heads for the turbolift ::

:: wonders if she can get a replicator in the arm of her chair ::

:: in turbolift :: Bridge.

:: hits Harper with the hypospray, checking the blood pod before offering a smile :: CO: Alright, you’re good to go. Could you send Kuari to me when you get back to the bridge?

:: doors open, she sees the view of the contact-binary stars on the screen :: Wow.

:: can’t stop staring as she heads for the ENG console ::

:: nods at D'bryn in response to her "wow" :: ENG: Cool, right?

:: hops down off the bed, feeling like she got off easy :: MED: Of course, doctor. Thank you.

CSO: Yeah. Contact-binaries are s’posed to be rare, right?

:: looks up at the screen once he's satsified with the information on the helm :: Whoa.

:: checks her notes, freezes, then spins around :: CO: Oh! Wait! I forgot something, I’m sorry.

:: had just started to walk away and pauses with a start, like she'd been caught escaping jail :: MED: Yes?

:: nods again :: ENG: Definitely. This is quite a find, especially with four planets. But I think we're approaching the planet, so I'll switch the view now. :: turns back to her console and puts an image of the cloud-covered planet up on the main viewer instead ::

Kyler: :: takes a breath, holds his posture :: What are my orders, sir?

:: watches the main viewer, the unique images of the unexplored making her smile ::

:: searches under one of the biobeds and finds the button for the leg pumps, pushing it triumphantly and activating the strength machine on the wall :: CO: Here, lay back down and press your feet here. I almost forgot the strength test entirely. :: she laughs wryly ::

Kyler Everly> :: scowls, gesturing with two fingers for Ammora to approach and pointing at an empty chair to his left :: TAC2: Sit your ass down and listen. I expect utter silence unless you're asking a well-damn good question. Are you familiar with the security systems onboard the Atlantis?

:: half to self, half to CSO :: Whoa...

:: blinks ::

:: opens mouth, shuts it again ::

MED: And here I thought I had escaped them this time.

Kyler: Yes. sir.

:: lays back down on the biobed and puts her feet on the pedals, then looks resignedly back at Emily :: MED: Ready?

:: runs more detailed scans of the planet :: Self: Hmmm. XO: This planet is too close to the stars to be in the habitable zone, and it looks like the cloud cover is due to a runaway greenhouse effect. Very inhospitable.

:: settles the ship into orbit ::

:: presses two buttons on the screen then smiles, hoping the silent ‘sorry’ comes across :: CO: Ready. Try to keep a steady pace.

:: nods :: CSO: All right, basic scans, and we can move on if there's nothing of further interest.

:: starts pumping the leg presses alternately into the wall, finding little resistance since she never skips leg day ::

XO: Aye, Commander. So far I'm seeing some mineral deposits down there, but nothing really noteworthy.

:: lets the machine tick up in difficulty at its usual steady pace for the test, watching the readouts and taking notes ::

:: nods, her mind already wandering to what the next planet might be like :: CSO: All right. Next!

XO: The stars themselves would be next, if we wanted to pay them a visit.

:: settles in to the routine, her mind wandering, but unable to attain the zen-like state of some of her morning runs ::

CSO: Sounds good!

Kyler Everly> :: takes Ammora through the rundown of the security systems onboard the Atlantis before turning to stare at the new recruit carefully :: TAC2: Is this your first time shipboard in a full position?

:: plots a course to a safe stellar orbit :: XO: Course laid in and ready.

XO: The magnetosphere of the stars is an interesting shape.

:: watches the Captain get an impressive score for her size, raising an eyebrow and smiling at her PADD ::

NAV: Let's go, Mr. Navarro.

:: still having no trouble with the resistance, she keeps pumping her legs ::

:: can’t stop staring at the screen and listening to Wright, has to tear herself away to check the Engineering console ::

Kyler: ::listens:: On a ship, sir, yes. I worked on Starbase 90 before this.

:: engages the warp drive, streaking the ship away from the pressure-cooker hellscape planet ::

:: does start to break a little bit of a sweat, but she shows no signs of stopping ::

Kyler: While the systems aren't the same, and I'll learn, the parameters are based in the same specifications.

:: watches as the machine continues to tick up in difficulty, increasingly impressed ::

:: coughs, clears his throat :: Sir.

:: exits warp into a low stellar orbit, but at a safe distance ::

:: switches the viewer back to the stars, drawing the lines of the magnetosphere on the image to illustrate them for the others ::

CSO: I am seeing this orbit as safe. Do you concur, Commander?

:: starts to have to work a little, she keeps going out of pride, intending to beat her last score ::

:: nods at Navarro :: NAV: This should do nicely. XO: Initiating scans.

:: looks back up at the stars on the main viewer, now much closer and with cool lines flowing out of them ::

:: notes the Captain’s previous score and how close she’s getting to it but keeps quiet, not wanting to taint the results ::

:: foot starts to bounce ::

:: watches as her crew works the exploration routine ::

:: now having to actually fight against significant resistance, but she wills herself through a barrier and is able to go for a while longer ::

:: nods lightly and smiles as the Captain surpasses her previous score, making a small note ::

Kyler Everly> :: nods slowly :: TAC2: Alright... I should probably warn you a little bit about handling the CTO. She doesn't tolerate lateness, or much of anything. :: he jabs a finger at the screens, standing suddenly :: TAC2: Point out what's incorrect on the footage. :: it was an older footage, but had plenty of stuff incorrect on the cameras ::

:: zooms in the image to give everyone a closer look at the coronas ::

:: looks at the screen ::

:: blinks, looks again ::

:: now sweating heavily, she goes for a bit longer, her face determined as she starts to feel her muscles burn and start to weaken ::

Kyler: Can you go back to one minute forty? :: points to the screen ::

:: encourages the Captain :: CO: You’re doing great.

Kyler> :: nods and rewinds the footage, dropping it to half-standard speed :: TAC2: Go ahead.

XO: Scans are nearly complete, Commander, just one more minute.

All: This is...beautiful.

CSO: :: stares :: No rush.

:: pants, not acknowledging Emily as she keeps going, but her legs start to shake ::

:: makes another note with a tap at her PADD, waiting for the Captain to inevitably lose to the machine ::

:: she finally gives out, but with the satisfaction of knowing that she's shattered her previous score ::

:: snaps a few holos of the main viewer from his console ::

:: grins, clapping her hands together :: CO: Nice job! You beat your previous score~

:: still panting, she rolls her head over to find Emily, grinning stupidly :: MED: I know. That is my goal every time.

Kyler: :: stands :: Violation of standard regulation that there was only one guard on duty when there were multiple suspects in sickbay. Two, the forcefield on the main suspect wasn't set for anything more than level three as the doctor moves through it without authorization.. Three, there's a civilian in bed four. That's a breach of standard operating protocol for non-Starfleet combatants in a medical situation. But the biggest grievance... :: points to the screen :: The guard on duty isn't even equipped with a standard issue phaser. Starfleet regulations state specifically, when more than one possible threat is in sickbay, or in holding of any kind, the security officer should be equipped with AT LEAST a standard phaser - and generally a standard-issue phaser rifle - to ensure security integrity.

:: chuckles :: CO: That does sound like you.

:: snaps back to attention :: Sir.

:: sits up, breathing heavily, but starting to catch her breath as she swings her legs that are now jelly off the bed ::

XO: Our next destination may be of some interest. It's in the habitable zone, and it looks to be completely covered with water.

CSO/NAV: I'm assuming scans are complete? Let's go.

XO/NAV: Yes, we're all set.

:: is awestruck by the prospect of this new planet ::

:: gratefully accepts the hypospray and hops off the bed, good to go after a few minutes' rest ::

All: Next stop: water world. :: warps the ship toward the wet planet ::

Kyler> TAC2: Lemme get that sent up to Grey, then I'm sure you can take.. uhh... Pierce, you're cleared off. Ammora's taking your place for the rest of shift. But before you go... do you have any questions for me about the officers or the ship?

:: starts preparing for her next patient, checking the size of the opening to the full body scanner to be sure Kuari will fit :: CO: Remember to send down Kuari when she’s free.

Kyler: And, for what it's worth, the doctor doesn't have the emergency kit for cardiac arrest within reach. The algorithm on the second bed indicates that there's a possibility for imminent heart failure.

:: wonders how Kate's physical is going, and switches the viewer to the new planet as they approach ::

MED: Will do, and thanks again, doctor. :: exits, heading for her shower ::

:: drops out of warp and swings around into an orbit ::

Kyler: I'm also certified as a field medic, sir. Though not my place to comment on medical parameters.

:: enters her quarters and taps off a quick message to Lexy: "Broke my previous record on the leg presses!" then sheds her clothing and ducks into the shower ::

XO: This world is geologically active. There are a number of seamounts under the surface of the water, and one - ONE - that protrudes just above the surface.

:: brushes the cat hair off her uniform, then fixes her hair into the side-twist ponytail, then pets Anna some more at her insistence ::

CSO: Just...one? Sounds unique, let's take a closer look.

:: pinpoints the location and sends it over to the helm ::

XO: Adjusting our orbit.

Kyler: :: bolts upright again :: Sir.

:: scritches Anna behind her ears, then activates the holographic red dot before she leaves ::

CSO: Geologically active, you say? Seismic?

Kyler> TAC2: hey, hey, deep breath for me. Are you okay?

XO: Some, certainly, and active volcanics. This island is the top of a massive shield volcano.

:: nods to herself :: CSO: I see. Interesting.

:: enters the TL and directs it to the bridge ::

:: puts the Captain’s blood sample in the machine that will process it, pulling up Kuari’s previous physical and preparing a new chart ::

Kyler: Yes, sir. New to the Atlantis and want to make a good impression, sir. Sir, being on a ship is different than a starbase, sir. And being late, sir, I just wanted to show I know what I'm doing and I'm capable, sir.

XO: Abundant prokaryotic life throughout the seas, it seems.

:: exits on to the bridge, looking refreshed ::

XO: What do we have? :: narrows her eyes at the main viewer, her face brightening ::

:: smiles at Harper :: CO: We've scanned one planet and the contact-binary star. This is our third stop, a water planet, with volcanic activity.

Kyler> :: sighs and sits down in his chair :: TAC2: I know it may seem intimidating, especially with Grey's own... personality. But don't take it as bad, she really does care about the Marines and Tactical... she couldn't have been married if anyone thought she was too intense or intimidating. We all help each other here, if you need help, do not be afraid to ask.

:: looks from Kuari to Lexy :: CSO: Is there life in that ocean?

CO: Abundant prokaryotic life, Captain.

:: stand tall, but is not feeling good ::

:: claps her hands together :: CSO: Excellent!

Kyler: Sir, permission to be relieved, sir!

CO: They're really concentrated around the volcanic vents, which we would expect given our knowledge of how such life has worked on other worlds.

:: remembering the message she has to deliver, she turns to Kuari :: XO: Doctor Acacia says you are next in line for a physical.

CO: Well... it's a barren shield volcano, not much to see unless you're interested in geology, but as long as we avoid the lava flows, we should be fine.

CO/CSO: Could there be life specific to that dry environment, compared to the sea?

:: looks down at Lexy, her eyes bright :: CSO: To stand on the only island on an entire planet...

+TAC2+ Oh absolutely! Get some ginger ale or something with ginger in your system, that should help stabilize things a bit. Take it easy.

XO: It's unlikely that there's anything beyond single-celled life, but I'm certainly interested in the geology of it. CO: The air is breathable, if a bit thin.

ACTION> An alarm sounds from the tactical console, one second before the ship lurches forward violently, the inertial dampeners completely overwhelmed and unable to soften the motion.

:: tumbles out of her chair and tosses the PADD she was working on, caught off guard ::

:: thrown forward toward the main viewer, caught completely off guard by the sudden lurch ::

:: opens her mouth to continue the conversation with Wright, but shuts it quickly and barely catches herself by reflex with her tail around her chair, able to latch back on with all limbs ::

:: moves from patient to patient quickly, focusing on the worst, mostly head wounds. She keeps her cool, but the suddenness of it has her off her groove ::

:: vision begins to clear a little, tries to sit up :: Shit, shit, shit...

:: hears Navarro, panics, tries to get bearings ::

:: waits for the ship to stop shuddering from a hit and takes three leaps towards the engineering console, attempting to recall her knowledge of engineering and hopes it's enough ::

CO: Torpedoes not responding, phasers still responding for NOW, though for how much longer... I am not sure. Probably one, two more hits like that will wipe out all our defenses and chance at even fighting back!

:: labors halfway into her chair ::

ACTION> The ship slams again as she takes another hit, sending people fying.

:: yells as she's sent flying this time, hitting the console opposite her usual station with a barely-audible crack and quickly scrambling back up to her feet, regaining her previous position and continuing to work, wiping away a slowly-dripping line of blood trying to interrupt her vision :: Bridge: Something's not right here!
