(21:20:33) NAV_LtJG_Navarro: :: may or may not be grinning while he steers the entire flotilla of linked spacecraft towing Atlantis ::
(21:21:32) CSO_LCdr_Wright: Suzuki> :: watches the controls handle themselves and ponders resuming her shuteye right here ::
(21:22:02) CO_CaptHarper: :: sitting at helm, idly fiddling with her wrist brace, feeling rather ineffective since Navarro is towing Atlantis ::
(21:22:50) XO_LCdr_Kuari: :: lies nervously on her seat on the Bridge, watching these unusual events play out, content they have a direction and better understanding of how to avoid the quantum filaments, but they're not safe yet ::
(21:22:56) CMO_LtJG_Tailor: ::is staring dumbfoundedly out the viewscreen at the flotilla outside since she missed half of what just happened, due to the broken down turbolift::
(21:23:05) CTO_Maj_Wolfe: :: is glad that the flotilla is out there, with sensors working. Still, he doesn't like being unable to see outside. Not at all. He taps a couple buttons on his console, wishing they were able to do something right now. ::
(21:24:12) SCI_LCdr_TLira: :: sitting in her fighter, pondering on what part of her mind thought she could actually pilot this thing with one hand. Fortunately, autopilot is functional at the moment ::
(21:24:16) CSO_LCdr_Wright: CO: Captain, can Science be of any help to Engineering? Or... :: glances back at her station, not sure what to do ::
(21:24:57) ENG_Lt_Ilaihr: ::Looks up at the viewscreen, fondly remembering days passed, of flying in a caravan of ships. Returns his gaze to the warp core containment, monitoring its progress.::
(21:25:57) NAV_LtJG_Navarro: :: steers everyone slightly to the left, to maintain maximum rate of distance increase ::
(21:27:27) CEO_LtQuinn: :: The latest good news on his end is that plugging a bunch of extension cords together isn't exactly warp theory, and plugging them into the EPS grid isn't much more of a chore for a trained and experienced engineering team. In short order, a crude but hopefully serviceable bypass is in place circumventing the damaged portions of the grid. ::
(21:27:47) CO_CaptHarper: CSO: You would have to ask engineering about that. But what I would really like would be an even larger sensor radius, so that we can be sure that we are not flying into another group of these filaments.
(21:28:50) CEO_LtQuinn: :: Hunched over inside the shuttlecraft, Quinn finishes double checking that the connection is secure on his end, and once he gets confirmation that the other end is similarly secured, he makes his way back to the cockpit, and initiates power transfer. ::
(21:28:58) CSO_LCdr_Wright: :: nods at Kate :: CO: Aye, Captain. I'll see what I can do to get more sensors with no additional power.
(21:31:09) CEO_LtQuinn: *ENG* Quinn to bridge. We have our emegency bypass in place. Initiating power transfer at 5% to test the connection. That should be enough to register SOME change in the containment field. Give me confirmation, and we can try cranking it up to full.
(21:31:31) MED_Ens_Velekh: ::Works on repairing equipment in medbay and is repeatedly frustrated when it malfunctions and he is forced to restart::
(21:31:48) XO_LCdr_Kuari: :: brightens at news from Engineering, looking to Harper ::
(21:32:16) CO_CaptHarper: *CEO* Understood, Lieutenant. Stand by. :: gets up from the largely useless helm and turns toward the back of the bridge ::
(21:33:56) ENG_Lt_Ilaihr: *CEO*: Excellent, Lieutenant. Checking now. ::Types away the necessary commands.::
(21:35:28) ENG_Lt_Ilaihr: ::Frowns.:: *CEO*: Hmmm. I'm not registering any change...
(21:38:15) CO_CaptHarper: CSO: Power should be a bit better now, but maybe network in the feeds from the sensors on the flotilla?
(21:39:46) CEO_LtQuinn: :: Matching frown. :: *ENG* Okay, well the power flow looks stable at least. Bumping it up to 15%...now.
(21:40:57) CSO_LCdr_Wright: :: has been working on getting her console to cooperate :: CO: Aye, captain, I'm working on an algorithm to combine and interpret the sensor inputs from all vessels now.
(21:41:45) CO_CaptHarper: :: turns and looks over Wright's shoulder :: CSO: That looks good so far.
(21:42:52) CO_CaptHarper: :: drifts back to the engineering console ::
(21:43:01) CTO_Maj_Wolfe: :: watches Wright's console as much as he can, since there's nothing of interest on his, and it wouldn't REALLY matter if there was. ::
(21:43:06) CO_CaptHarper: ACTION> Warp core containment starts to improve.
(21:43:11) CSO_LCdr_Wright: :: flashes Kate a small smile before she goes, but otherwise remains focused on her work ::
(21:45:21) CO_CaptHarper: :: peeks at the engineering data that Ilaihr is so intent on ::
(21:45:55) ENG_Lt_Ilaihr: ::Smiles.:: *CEO*: Much better. I would recommend keeping it at this level for a few moments. Give the system a chance to acclimate.
(21:46:28) CSO_LCdr_Wright: *NAV* Zorro, Wright here, may I have permission to take control of your flotilla's sensors?
(21:47:05) NAV_LtJG_Navarro: *CSO* Yes ma'am, just don't leave me flying blind out here.
(21:47:18) NAV_LtJG_Navarro: :: really wants to make everyone do a synchronized roll ::
(21:48:03) CEO_LtQuinn: *ENG* Agreed. A gradual ramping up will allow us to run further stress tests on the EPS grid as we go. But so far...things aren't looking too shabby.
(21:48:47) CMO_LtJG_Tailor: ::furrows her brow a bit at reports still coming in from sickbay about malfunctioning equipment::
(21:48:51) CSO_LCdr_Wright: *NAV* Stand by, I'm transmitting the code now. Please advise if there are problems on your end. You should see no change, but I'll get to see your sensor data.
(21:49:47) CSO_LCdr_Wright: :: transmits the code to the flotilla ::
(21:50:17) NAV_LtJG_Navarro: :: enters it to allow the override ::
(21:51:06) CSO_LCdr_Wright: :: quietly :: XO: I've never actually done this before, so I hope it works.
(21:51:34) CO_CaptHarper: :: confident that's in hand, she wanders over to tactical ::
(21:51:54) CEO_LtQuinn: *CO* I assume you heard all that, Captain. I'll build toward full power transfer in stages, just to make sure the connection can handle the load. But keeping our fingers crossed, we'll be at 100% within five minutes. That SHOULD stabilize containment while we conduct repairs on the EPS grid and attempt a proper diagnostic on the core itself.
(21:52:17) CO_CaptHarper: *CEO* I did indeed, lieutenant. Good work and keep me updated.
(21:52:49) XO_LCdr_Kuari: :: nods to Wright and listens to Engineering precariously contain their warp core while the ship is precariously towed by their own fighters with the help of sensors powered by tricorders. She has to admire the creativity of it. ::
(21:55:40) CSO_LCdr_Wright: :: smiles as the combined sensor uplink is established ::
(21:58:15) ENG_Lt_Ilaihr: ::Pats the console.:: Atlantis: Easy now, my dear.
(22:00:36) NAV_LtJG_Navarro: :: sees the uplink go into place without issue, and flies on as he's still able to see ahead ::
(22:00:56) CSO_LCdr_Wright: *NAV* Zorro, I'm currently sending you the data from the combined sensors, with my tweaks included to allow you to see the filaments. Please advise whether the sensor readout shows as expected.
(22:02:14) NAV_LtJG_Navarro: *CSO* Understood. Awaiting your transmission.
(22:03:19) CSO_LCdr_Wright: :: looks down at her console... did it not go? attempts to transmit again ::
(22:04:09) NAV_LtJG_Navarro: :: sees the filaments ping behind them, and none ahead :: *CSO* There it is, as expected.
(22:07:45) CSO_LCdr_Wright: *NAV* Excellent, thank you.
(22:07:53) XO_LCdr_Kuari: :: listens to Wright with interest. They may just get out of this ::
(22:08:25) CSO_LCdr_Wright: :: sends the readout to the TAC and Command consoles as well ::
(22:09:10) NAV_LtJG_Navarro: :: restrains himself from increasing speed, since their distance from the filaments is sufficient now, and 1/4 impulse gives them time to avoid any more ::
(22:09:21) CMO_LtJG_Tailor: ::is taking inventory of all the broken stuff in her department... including turbolift 2, and sends a request over to Engineering for a repair team, when they can spare one::
(22:11:57) CO_CaptHarper: :: overhears and heads back front, to look at the sensor data coming in ::
(22:12:08) CEO_LtQuinn: *CO* Okay, power transfer is sitting at 100%. I won't be able to shuttle crews around by transporter for a little bit, but for the moment, core containment is stable. I'll keep you updated on our efforts to keep it that way.
(22:12:47) CO_CaptHarper: :: smiles with relief :: *CEO* Thank you, Chief. It is good to know that our warp core will stay in one piece.
(22:15:26) XO_LCdr_Kuari: :: sighs in relief at Quinn's words, and spends most of her time staring down at her console, eagerly watching the readout feed from Wright ::
(22:17:42) CO_CaptHarper: :: looks over the sensor data :: CSO: I wonder if this data could lead to a permanent sensor modification to show these filaments at all times?
(22:19:07) CSO_LCdr_Wright: CO: :: shrugs :: I don't see why not. I can submit them for testing to Starfleet as part of my research data.
(22:19:17) CSO_LCdr_Wright: CO: When we get back, that is.
(22:20:07) CO_CaptHarper: :: sits at helm and leans over toward Ops, pinching her chin :: CSO: If you devised the method, you could publish on it.
(22:20:19) XO_LCdr_Kuari: CO/CSO: Yes, this would be standard for scanning this area for whoever finds themselves here next, or any other place quantum filaments are found.
(22:22:59) CO_CaptHarper: XO: Or anywhere at all. If we did not have to specifically scan for them and could passively detect them at all times, they would cease to be an issue.
(22:23:24) XO_LCdr_Kuari: :: nods in agreement ::
(22:25:06) CSO_LCdr_Wright: :: looks at both of them and considers ::
(22:27:12) CSO_LCdr_Wright: CO/XO: Hmmm... I could probably put something together.
(22:27:47) CO_CaptHarper: :: grins :: CSO: I thought that you might be able to.
(22:28:19) CSO_LCdr_Wright: CO/XO: I always like /doing/ the science a lot more than I like writing about it. :: grins at them ::
(22:28:40) XO_LCdr_Kuari: :: grins and turns her nose towards Wright, happy for her ::
(22:30:00) CEO_LtQuinn: :: Not long after making that call, Quinn vacates his shuttle as a technician shows up to relieve him of the task of baby sitting the power flow, which is hardly a task requiring the chief engineer's personal attention. By this point, he's become well used to "roughing it", and he's climbed the two decks back to engineering in record time. ::
(22:31:05) CEO_LtQuinn: *CO* Engineering to bridge.
(22:31:11) CO_CaptHarper: ACTION> Our distance from the filaments has now become so great that they are no longer affecting the ship's power.
(22:31:18) CO_CaptHarper: *CEO* Harper here, go ahead.
(22:31:56) CEO_LtQuinn: *CO* I have some more good news for you, Captain. I just got back to main engineering to find a preliminary report waiting for me. Specifically, a once over of the warp core.
(22:32:35) CO_CaptHarper: :: perks up at good news :: *CEO* Go on....
(22:33:43) CEO_LtQuinn: *CO* I hasten to specify that we don't have the resources we should have yet for a proper diagnostic, but it LOOKS like the core itself is fine. I'm not going to promise you the moon here, but once we get the flotilla back in, I'd be comfortable with, say...a two minute hop at warp...oh, 2.3.
(22:34:02) CEO_LtQuinn: *CO* I know, that's not much. But it SHOULD be enough to get us out of the woods, so to speak.
(22:34:57) CO_CaptHarper: *CEO* It is music to my peers, Lieutenant!
(22:35:02) XO_LCdr_Kuari: :: notices her tail has started swaying back in forth in excitement as she listens to the good news ::
(22:35:56) CMO_LtJG_Tailor: ::chuckles at the captain's expression::
(22:36:09) CO_CaptHarper: XO: Have the flotilla bring us to a stop, and recall them.
(22:36:39) CSO_LCdr_Wright: :: almost doesn't notice, as she is considering what she'd want to publish ::
(22:36:52) CEO_LtQuinn: *CO* And...may I ask a question, Captain?
(22:37:09) CO_CaptHarper: *CEO* Of course, Chief.
(22:37:56) CEO_LtQuinn: *CO* You...you're going to wind up asking me if we can get this mess patched up without returning to a starbase, right?
(22:39:08) XO_LCdr_Kuari: *Sharks* Atlantis to Sharks. Bring Atlantis to a stop. You're then clear to disengage tractor beams and return to the assault bay. Well done.
(22:39:13) CO_CaptHarper: *CEO* We are three-quarters of the way to the center of the galaxy... so yes, I will at least ask you that.
(22:39:34) CEO_LtQuinn: :: Sighs long sufferingly. At this point, he's not sure he remembers how to do it any other way. :: *CO* Well, when that time comes, I'm going to tell you it's ill-advised. And that will be gospel truth. But I'll see what I can do.
(22:40:21) NAV_LtJG_Navarro: *XO* Understood.
(22:41:39) NAV_LtJG_Navarro: *Sharks* Not that I am the CAG, but we have the order to disengage tractor and return home. I am returning control to you once we come to a stop.
(22:41:54) NAV_LtJG_Navarro: :: slowly transitions the fleet to reverse thrust ::
(22:42:28) CO_CaptHarper: *CEO* I understand, lieutenant. We can talk about it when we are in the clear. Stand by for a short warp flight.
(22:42:31) SCI_LCdr_TLira: :: lifts an eyebrow, but remains silent ::
(22:44:15) CSO_LCdr_Wright: Suzuki> :: jolts awake when the message comes through, having apparently started dozing, and hopes no one noticed ::
(22:45:34) NAV_LtJG_Navarro: :: slowly eases the flotilla to a stop and ends the swarm control ::
(22:45:51) NAV_LtJG_Navarro: *Sharks* Your controls are your own again. See you on the deck.
(22:45:58) XO_LCdr_Kuari: Ash> :: eases Atlantis to slow down with the rest of the fleet, grinning :: Self: This is so crazy.
(22:46:36) XO_LCdr_Kuari: Ash> :: releases from Atlantis and heads back to base ::
(22:46:57) CSO_LCdr_Wright: Suzuki> :: blinks herself back into alertness, taking the controls of her Mustang and entering into formation by force of habit, all the way back to the launch bay ::
(22:47:04) NAV_LtJG_Navarro: :: cuts the runabout's tractor and heads for the assault bay, out of habit ::
(22:47:36) SCI_LCdr_TLira: :: regains controls, once more regretting this one-handed business, and aims for the launch bay ::
(22:49:33) NAV_LtJG_Navarro: :: realizes his mistake, and sadly diverts to the shuttlebay ::
(22:50:53) XO_LCdr_Kuari: Ash> :: lands softly in the assault bay, thinking her vessel much more capable than the ship she's just landed in, and how sad that fact is ::
(22:51:41) NAV_LtJG_Navarro: :: touches down in the shuttlebay, without his fellow pilots ::
(22:51:46) SCI_LCdr_TLira: :: lands with only minor difficulty and pops the canopy, intent on heading for Sickbay, much as she detests the notion ::
(22:52:18) CSO_LCdr_Wright: Suzuki> :: touches down in the assault bay mechanically, going through her post-flight shutdown checks methodically and robotically, sleep dragging at her spirit ::
(22:53:53) CO_CaptHarper: XO: Are all aboard?
(22:54:14) XO_LCdr_Kuari: :: checks her console :: CO: All aboard, Captain!
(22:55:02) CO_CaptHarper: :: plots a course at warp 2.3, thataway ::
(22:55:15) CTO_Maj_Wolfe: :: sees normal power returned to his console, disconnects the phaser that's been powering it for quite some time now, and is happy that systems are up so that he can actually see outside with his tactical scanners again. ::
(22:55:31) CO_CaptHarper: All: Hold on to your butts.
(22:55:46) CO_CaptHarper: :: engages the warp drive ::
(22:55:57) XO_LCdr_Kuari: :: grips her seat with all fours ::
(22:56:15) SCI2_Ens_Jude: :: jokingly holds butt ::
(22:56:29) CO_CaptHarper: ACTION: Atlantis finally warps away from the region of the quantum filament river.
(22:56:30) CTO_Maj_Wolfe: :: stands as normal at TAC1::
(22:56:39) CSO_LCdr_Wright: :: is somewhat nervous about warping into more filaments, but decides to worry about that when it happens ::
(22:58:32) CSO_LCdr_Wright: CO: I've marked the region as we know it in our map database. Future exploratory vessels can use our sensor modifications to map it more extensively in the future.
(22:58:52) CO_CaptHarper: :: monitors the readings on her old console before Navarro comes to take it away, and everything seems nominal ::
(22:59:10) CO_CaptHarper: CSO: Yes, future, other vessels. That are not us.
(22:59:20) CSO_LCdr_Wright: CO: Indeed, Captain.
(22:59:49) CO_CaptHarper: CSO: I am good with that.
(22:59:59) XO_LCdr_Kuari: CSO: I imagine scanning the area would be much easier with fully-powered sensors. :: smiles wryly ::
(23:00:02) CSO_LCdr_Wright: Suzuki> :: groggily heading to the locker room to strip off her flight suit before remembering that she's in her pajamas, and then padding back to her quarters, ignoring the stares ::
(23:00:23) SCI_LCdr_TLira: :: takes the longest route to Sickbay possible ::
(23:00:34) XO_LCdr_Kuari: Ash> :: jumps out of her fighter, thinking she'll be remembering this mission for some time to come ::
(23:00:54) NAV_LtJG_Navarro: :: feels the ship go to warp, and smiles, knowing the Captain intentionally did that before he got back, and heads to the bridge ::
