(21:22:44) aCO_Cdr_Harper: :: walks over to the helm to check on the automatic stationkeeping, finds that it is still working automatically ::
(21:23:00) CSO_LCdr_Wright: :: shaking her head in frustration, crosses the Bridge toward Kate, trying to shake it off before she begins :: aCO: Commander, I believe we are ready to present you with preliminary plans to address the infestation.
(21:23:32) SCI_LtJG_TLira: :: at an aux science console, trying to analyze the behavior of the bees ::
(21:23:43) aCO_Cdr_Harper: :: turns to Lexy :: CSO: What do you have?
(21:26:02) ENG_LtJG_Ilaihr: ::Plods on back to his station, to complete the power cell's design for modular energy type as well as frequency.::
(21:27:38) CSO_LCdr_Wright: aCO: First, we plan to isolate the areas of the station that house personnel and sensitive experiments using forcefields and bulkheads, as soon as we can extract any insects in those areas. They seem to be attracted to power sources, so the plan is to shut down power to the areas where they are clustered and attempt to herd them using power cells designed by engineering.
(21:28:48) aCO_Cdr_Harper: :: nodding along ::
(21:30:22) aCO_Cdr_Harper: CSO: That sounds good. Advise Herschel of the plan and coordinate as necessary.
(21:31:08) CSO_LCdr_Wright: aCO: Then, there's some... disagreement surrounding what to do with the creatures once removed from the area. We could destroy them by depressurizing and repressurizing everything but the sequestered sensitive areas, but some have... concerns regarding exterminating the insects.
(21:31:48) aCO_Cdr_Harper: CSO: Is there any conceivable way to save them? That is a lot of insects.
(21:32:52) CTO_Maj_Wolfe: :: listens to the conversation at hand from his tactical station ::
(21:33:17) CMO_Cmdr_Kymar: ::taps his comm badge as he finishes setting up an adequate containment system:: *aCO*: Doctor Kymar to Commander Harper.
(21:33:41) CSO_LCdr_Wright: aCO: In my personal opinion, there is no way to save the entire colony. Isuppose it is possible that a portion could be preserved, but we would have to re-home them.
(21:33:43) aCO_Cdr_Harper: *CMO* Harper here. One moment, doctor. :: puts him on hold ::
(21:34:01) CMO_Cmdr_Kymar: ::stands there, jaw hanging open:: Self: Hold!?
(21:34:36) aCO_Cdr_Harper: :: with the obnoxious muzak and everything ::
(21:34:51) CMO_Cmdr_Kymar: ::turns off the hold music::
(21:36:05) aCO_Cdr_Harper: :: thinks a moment :: CSO: No, I do not think that is feasible. Proceed with plans to depressurize once they are clear of the sensitive experiments.
(21:37:23) CSO_LCdr_Wright: aCO: Aye, Commander. :: heads over to Science to brief the Station ::
(21:37:48) aCO_Cdr_Harper: :: takes Kymar off hold ::*CMO* Yes, doctor?
(21:38:34) CMO_Cmdr_Kymar: ::leans against the console, a dour look on his face:: *aCO*: Commander. I'd like to get a few sample subjects from the swarm, the more information we have on them the better idea we'll have of their original habitat and a possible solution for rehoming the hive.
(21:39:34) aCO_Cdr_Harper: *CMO* I have decided against rehoming the hive, but you are welcome to take a sample, provided you can provide better containment than the station did.
(21:40:01) SCI_LtJG_TLira: :: was listening to the entire conversation that transpired, as she often listens to various conversations on the bridge, so long as they are of a professional nature, and is slightly disappointed that they are indeed going to exterminate the insect population ::
(21:40:03) CMO_Cmdr_Kymar: ::tilts his head slightly:: *aCO*: Then...what're you going to do with the hive, Commander? We can't leave them there, they need to be moved.
(21:40:50) aCO_Cdr_Harper: *CMO* We will depressurize the affected sections.
(21:40:56) XO_Capt_TKirr: @ :: walks from the shuttle's cockpit after checking on their heading to settle back down in her chair across from Blackthorne, a chessboard between them :: CO: Made a decision yet?
(21:41:06) CSO_LCdr_Wright: :: hears this and comes back, ready to provide counter-arguments ::
(21:41:14) CMO_Cmdr_Kymar: ::his jaw drops again, silent and spluttering quietly for a second:: *aCO*: You're going to exterminate them!?
(21:41:25) VAdmBlackthorne: @ XO: You know, some day, I will beat you at this game. :: moves his bishop ::
(21:42:22) ENG_LtJG_Ilaihr: ::Overhearing the commander's talk with the doctor, he chuckles. She and Commander Wright were quite similar, dogged in their determination and resolute in their decisions. He found it refreshing.::
(21:42:39) aCO_Cdr_Harper: *CMO* Yes, doctor.
(21:43:23) CMO_Cmdr_Kymar: ::steels himself, gritting his teeth:: *aCO*: You seem awfully calm for someone that's about to possibly commit genocide. Captain.
(21:44:04) XO_Capt_TKirr: @ :: perks eyebrow as she surveys the board :: CO: You just may. Practice improves skill.
(21:45:02) aCO_Cdr_Harper: :: blinks :: *CMO* They are not sentient, doctor, and are posing a risk to our people and station.
(21:45:12) XO_Capt_TKirr: @ :: makes her move against Ian's rook with her own bishop, the one he knew was coming ::
(21:45:41) CSO_LCdr_Wright: self: Re-homing even part of such a large artificial colony would be extremely disruptive to existing ecosystems. Many creatures would die. This is the best option.
(21:45:53) CMO_Cmdr_Kymar: ::stands up, checking his containment field for something to do:: *aCO*: They are living creatures, and as such deserve more than a systematic extermination. One of the founding tenants of Starfleet is to seek out new life, not to kill it.
(21:46:47) SCI_LtJG_TLira: :: blinks. The insects are not sentient? What a fascinating discovery. They do meet the majority of the qualifications for sentience... ::
(21:47:19) aCO_Cdr_Harper: *CMO* The samples that started this were not the only members of their species, either, so it will continue, and we lack the time to find them a suitable home. If you wish to take a sample, I advise you do it soon.
(21:48:04) VAdmBlackthorne: @ :: yep, saw that coming, and couldn't do anything about it as he resigns his rook to its fate :: XO: I'd say that I'll just beat you in poker, but you're pretty good at that too.
(21:49:41) CMO_Cmdr_Kymar: *aCO*: Then why can't we return this colony to their system of origin, reintroduce them into their natural habitat? We can't just slaughter them for the sake of convenience. As the Chief Physician onboard, I have to lodge a formal protest.
(21:50:21) aCO_Cdr_Harper: *CMO* Feel free to do so, doctor, but the decision is made.
(21:51:00) CMO_Cmdr_Kymar: ::mutters under his breath:: *aCO*: I hope you can live with it. I have a feeling you won't have any trouble doing so - Kymar out. ::cuts off the comm by slamming his fist into the console::
(21:51:03) CSO_LCdr_Wright: :: gives Kate a grim little nod ::
(21:51:15) aCO_Cdr_Harper: :: suddenly can not wait for Blackthorne and T'Kirr to get back so she does not have to make these decisions ::
(21:52:02) aCO_Cdr_Harper: :: sighs, who knew getting rid of some vermin would be such an ethical dilemma? :: CSO: Proceed with the plan.
(21:52:49) VAdmBlackthorne: @ :: finally decides on a knight move to potentially bother her queen ::
(21:53:08) CSO_LCdr_Wright: :: returns to Science and hails the station, informing them of the plan and coordinating the sealing off of danger zones... also pesters them for power schematics and forwards to ENG and SCI ::
(21:54:11) XO_Capt_TKirr: @ :: looks at his knight with interest and begins plotting its new possibilities ::
(21:54:34) SCI_LtJG_TLira: :: receives the power schematics and brings them up besides her ongoing analysis of the insect behavior, using it as a reference for her analysis ::
(21:55:57) XO_Capt_TKirr: @ :: quickly decides on her original plan and slides a pawn :: CO: How do you think the crew is faring on the station?
(21:56:28) VAdmBlackthorne: @ :: was hoping she wouldn't move that pawn :: XO: I'm sure they're fine. It's an easy problem to solve, really.
(21:56:45) CMO_Cmdr_Kymar: ::takes a few deep breaths, clenching and unclenching his fists before prepping the containment system and activating transporter control - he'd save what he could, get his samples, he knew a Xenobiologist onboard the Proteus who could take them over for him::
(21:56:46) ENG_LtJG_Ilaihr: ::Checks the power schematics and starts calculating routes of attack.::
(21:57:52) aCO_Cdr_Harper: :: notices that she suddenly has a headache, wonders how the CO deals with this sort of thing all the time ::
(22:00:44) CSO_LCdr_Wright: aCO: Herschel requests 5 minutes to prepare, I'll check back in with them then.
(22:00:49) aCO_Cdr_Harper: :: makes a brief exit to the observation lounge, and replicates some headache pills and a cup of tea - with honey ::
(22:01:31) aCO_Cdr_Harper: :: pops the pills, sips the tea, and re-enters the bridge as Wright speaks :: CSO: Understood.
(22:03:36) VAdmBlackthorne: @ :: presses the attack against her queen with his own ::
(22:05:24) CSO_LCdr_Wright: ENG/SCI: How are things coming with the mobile lure design?
(22:05:36) ENG_LtJG_Ilaihr: ::Looks ups from his console briefly, as simulations plot best points; and the designs finish up and transfer to engineering.::
(22:06:44) XO_Capt_TKirr: @ :: had prepared earlier for his queen to advance although it did give her fewer options, and moved her king :: CO: It's certainly an interesting issue, although well within our ability to handle.
(22:08:30) aCO_Cdr_Harper: :: checks the helm as she passes it, finds the stationkeeping quite stationary ::

(22:12:51) aCO_Cdr_Harper: :: crosses to the center seat and sits, sipping at the honeyed tea ::
(22:15:44) VAdmBlackthorne: @ :: presses forward, with a pawn :: XO: We're a bit of overkill, but it was convenient, at least.
(22:16:26) ENG_LtJG_Ilaihr: ::Looks to T'lira.:: CSO: I have sent schematics to engineering for construction on the power cells.
(22:19:46) ENG_LtJG_Ilaihr: CSO: I also have a rudimentary plan for where to place them to coral them. But with whatever information the lieutenant has gathered, can be used to better count out some variables... make it more efficient.
(22:20:35) CSO_LCdr_Wright: :: looks at him silently, having not yet heard a timeline ::
(22:20:52) XO_Capt_TKirr: @ :: takes the pawn :: CO: Indeed. It keeps the crew busy, and once in a while we can file a mission completed in the Home folder.

(22:30:10) CSO_LCdr_Wright: :: in response :: aCO/ENG/SCI: The security barriers are in place and the power shutdown is complete. The insect activity seems a bit disorganized, according to scans. ENG: Deploy lures 1-4.

(22:32:50) VAdmBlackthorne: ACTION> They lag a bit, but the insects eventually do notice the power and begin to migrate toward it.
(22:34:04) SCI_LtJG_TLira: :: observes their behavior and notes it :: CSO: The insects seem to be attracted to the power cells, the plan appears to be working so far, barring any sudden changes in behavior.
