(20:59:45) CdrTKirr: Hey. =) Finishing up an episode while we wait for the others
(21:00:48) VAdmBlackthorne: Alrighty
(21:04:18) LtLedaHarper [Talaith@34-75-2-24.hlrn.qwest.net] entered the room.
(21:04:24) VAdmBlackthorne: Hi Leda
(21:05:01) LtLedaHarper: yoooooo
(21:05:08) LtLedaHarper: That should be said in the proper Zeho drawl.
(21:06:38) VAdmBlackthorne: Ha!
(21:09:27) CdrTKirr: Dooone
(21:09:37) CdrTKirr: Love Continuum ^_^
(21:10:33) LtLedaHarper: The Continuum of Loooooove?
(21:11:38) VAdmBlackthorne: Alright, let's get started.
(21:12:03) CdrHarper [Mibbit@lnym-73-158-179-06.rcmdva.fios.verizon.net] entered the room.
(21:12:07) LtLedaHarper: Three of us? This will be lonely.
(21:12:33) VAdmBlackthorne: Four :)
(21:12:48) DoctorTav: Which of the three of us is not part of the four?
(21:12:56) VAdmBlackthorne: :blink:
(21:13:00) DoctorTav: :: looks around ::
(21:13:22) CdrTKirr: :: TWEEEEEEEEEEEET :: Attention!
(21:13:22) DoctorTav: :: AA ::
(21:16:02) LtLedaHarper: :: AA ::
(21:16:51) LtLedaHarper: Sorry, T'Kirr, didn't see you lurking way up there at the list top.
(21:17:10) VAdmBlackthorne has changed the topic to: Having stumbled into the middle of a civil war and been attacked by a patrol of the government, we're following one of the rebel ships to a safe haven. Its commander, Ot, wants to talk. ALso, there's some strangeness going on with the phase of energy in the local area.
(21:17:21) VAdmBlackthorne: Questions?
(21:18:11) LtLedaHarper: Vanilla or chocolate?
(21:18:28) VAdmBlackthorne: Chocolate.
(21:18:58) LtLedaHarper: pfft.
(21:19:12) DoctorTav: Always chocolate.
(21:19:19) VAdmBlackthorne: BEGIN SIM
(21:19:21) VAdmBlackthorne: BEGIN SIM
(21:19:22) VAdmBlackthorne: BEGIN SIM
(21:20:35) VAdmBlackthorne: While we travel, I'd like a full damage report. :: To T'Kirr ::
(21:22:30) DoctorTav: :: is taking care of some minor casualties in Sickbay. ::
(21:23:21) LtLedaHarper: :: Harper is engaged in quiet, worried conversation with Wright, trying to puzzle a way around the phase issue while sensor diagnostics are running. ::
(21:24:30) CdrTKirr: :: turns to her console arm and brings up the compilation of reports ::
(21:27:40) CdrHarper: Signal from their ship - ten minutes to go. Looks like we are going to that gas giant.
(21:27:48) VAdmBlackthorne: On screen.
(21:28:08) CdrHarper: :: tweeps a button and a blue-green gas giant, Neptunish, appears on the screen ::
(21:29:13) CdrTKirr: The slipstream drive is down. Hull breaches to decks seventeen through twenty one are contained, and repairs are underway. The primary sensor array is back up, but it's unclear as to whether readings are reliable or not in this area of space.
(21:30:28) LtLedaHarper: :: Lt. Harper's glance flicks to the viewscreen, noting distances, diameters, the lunar neighborhood. She presses a palm briefly to Wright's shoulder and heads back up to the Tac console. ::
(21:30:37) VAdmBlackthorne: Bloody hell. Any idea what's causing the phase variance? Could it be the local star?
(21:32:46) CdrTKirr: It's a possibility.
(21:33:12) CdrTKirr: Whatever it is, the ships in the vacinity seem to be accustomed to it.
(21:33:31) VAdmBlackthorne: If it has always been this way, their technology would find it normal.
(21:33:35) VAdmBlackthorne: And we're the ones out of phase.
(21:34:00) CdrTKirr: :: looks to Blackthorne :: Indeed.
(21:34:05) CdrHarper: Sir...?
(21:34:09) VAdmBlackthorne: Yes?
(21:34:23) CdrHarper: They are taking us into the gas giant's atmosphere.
(21:34:56) VAdmBlackthorne: As long as they don't go too far, we'll be fine. I'm sure that's their hiding place. Maintain shields.
(21:36:48) CdrHarper: Aye. Stand by for deceleration.
(21:38:07) VAdmBlackthorne: ACTION> It's definitely noticeable as Atlantis slows from orbital velocity in the upper reaches of the planet's atmosphere. Shock heating is quite apparent at the leading edge of our shields on the viewer.
(21:39:08) LtLedaHarper: (( Now I get it: This is an excuse to do a saucer-ship in atmosphere halfway correctly. ))
(21:39:26) VAdmBlackthorne: (And demonstrate proper orbital mechanics!)
(21:39:39) LtLedaHarper: (( Awesome! ))
(21:40:14) VAdmBlackthorne: ACTION> Fortunately the intertial dampeners manage to dissipate the enhanced Gs from such deceleration.
(21:40:53) VAdmBlackthorne: (The Enterprise would have been TOAST in the last movie, but would never have been pulled straight down from the moon just from losing power either. ) :V
(21:43:27) LtKuari [TKirr@90-43-96-75.res.bhn.net] entered the room.
(21:43:35) LtKuari: :: trots into Sickbay ::
(21:43:41) VAdmBlackthorne: ACTION> Several thousand meters per second later, Atlantis is cruising around in the giant's upper atmosphere, which lends a nice turquoise haze from the viewer.
(21:44:51) CdrTKirr: :: observes the display with interest ::
(21:45:36) DoctorTav: :: notes Kuari's entrance as he finishes up with his last minor casualty from the previous scuffle :: What brings you in here?
(21:46:05) CdrHarper: Multiple contacts ahead.
(21:46:47) LtKuari: :: cocks her head at Tav :: My feet...?
(21:47:36) DoctorTav: :: turns from what he is doing :: What do you mean? What's wrong with them? :: scans them with the Tricorder still in his hands :: I see nothing wrong with them.
(21:48:18) VAdmBlackthorne: ACTION> Ot's ship pulls in to formation with their fleet, and we're hailed.
(21:48:25) LtKuari: :: comes to a stop and boggles at Tav a moment before shaking her head :: Someday, I wonder if you could learn to speak Rucara.
(21:48:31) CdrHarper: Bringing us alongside.
(21:49:09) DoctorTav: :: cocks his head, then realizes :: Ah. You mean, literally, your feet brought you in here. :: nods :: Got it.
(21:49:57) LtKuari: :: grins toothily and looks at his latest patient as he leaves :: How's your day?
(21:50:40) VAdmBlackthorne: Incoming hail, from Ot's ship.
(21:50:44) LtKuari: Which I wouldn't say in Rucaran. What I would say would literally translate as..."You are like...?"
(21:50:51) VAdmBlackthorne: (That was Kate)
(21:51:03) VAdmBlackthorne: On screen.
(21:51:08) LtKuari: :: frowns :: Or is it "being..."
(21:51:52) DoctorTav: :: watches the patient leave with Kuari :: I am like? Well, thankfully, not too exciting. Those weapons were interesting, medically. Their injuries, while all minor, seemed like they had actually, personally, been hit by the weapons, as much as the effects of being on a ship that was hit by those weapons.
(21:52:04) VAdmBlackthorne: Ot> Admiral. We, er, I, would like permission to come aboard to discuss our situation.
(21:53:23) LtKuari: Struck by weapons...personally?
(21:53:36) LtKuari: Why were only some people affected?
(21:53:43) DoctorTav: In fact, I need to report that to the bridge. It might be something they'd like to know. +Bridge+ Sickbay to Bridge.
(21:54:00) VAdmBlackthorne: Granted. Stand by and we'll transport you.
(21:54:43) VAdmBlackthorne: T'Kirr, Lt. Harper, with me. Kate, you have the bridge.
(21:54:49) VAdmBlackthorne: +Tav+ Blackthorne here.
(21:55:08) CdrTKirr: :: jumps up to follow ::
(21:55:15) CdrHarper: Aye sir. :: cuts comm and preoccupies herself with maintaining a stable course in atmo ::
(21:55:29) LtLedaHarper: "Sir." Lt. Harper hands off the console to an even more junior officer and steps briskly into line.
(21:55:32) CdrHarper: :: which she does all the time with her Mustang, but Atlantis is somewhat larger ::
(21:55:47) VAdmBlackthorne: :: enters the TL with the other two :: TR1.
(21:56:07) DoctorTav: +Blackthorne+ Sir, the casualties from that last fight were interesting. They were all people in the areas of the ship that were hit, and... there was something to their injuries I have never seen from someone still alive, or crew members with only minor injuries. They looked almost like they had personally been fired upon with the weapons.
(21:57:21) VAdmBlackthorne: +Tav+ We're seeing phase variance with their energy weapons here.
(21:58:45) DoctorTav: +Blackthorne+ Hmm. That might explain it. It seems that the ship absorbed much of the energy, but I guess some passed through. Something to keep an eye out for in the future, sir.
(21:59:34) VAdmBlackthorne: +Tav+ Thanks Doc. Blackthorne out.
(22:00:24) VAdmBlackthorne: ;: exits the TL with his party and into the TR::
(22:00:28) VAdmBlackthorne: :: to the chief :: Energize.
(22:00:58) CdrTKirr: :: straightens as she waits, hands clasped behind her ::
(22:02:04) DoctorTav: :: turns back to Kuari :: It seems the people personally affected were close to where the weapons hit Atlantis. Proximity, and all.
(22:02:13) VAdmBlackthorne: ACTION> Ot appears on the pad, alone. Aside from having four eyes and rubbery skin, he looks quite normal.
(22:02:28) VAdmBlackthorne: Welcome aboard the Atlantis.
(22:03:18) CdrHarper is now known as Ot
(22:03:29) Ot: Thank you. You have quite the ship.
(22:03:36) LtLedaHarper: (( 'Oat' ))
(22:04:00) VAdmBlackthorne: :: smiles :: This is my executive officer, Commander T'Kirr, and a member of my security team, Lt. Harper. :: gestures right and left ::
(22:04:15) LtKuari: :: bobs her head in understanding :: Were you able to treat them effectively?
(22:04:27) LtLedaHarper: :: Harper dips her chin, hands loose at her sides. ::
(22:04:29) LtKuari: ((Poor Harper...))
(22:04:38) LtLedaHarper: (( Both of us. ))
(22:04:46) VAdmBlackthorne: (easier than opening another mibbit and always typing in the wrong one)
(22:05:19) VAdmBlackthorne: Please, come with us to a conference room.
(22:05:52) DoctorTav: Yes. It really was no problem. Much like someone who has been hit with a phaser and has burns. Just, it was like it was a very large phaser, at a low setting. Widespread burns, but not severe
(22:06:42) LtKuari: :: makes a face :: Like melty-fur all over. Ew.
(22:06:56) DoctorTav: Yes. But they're better now.
(22:07:11) Ot: :: blinks the upper set of eyes, then the lower :: Thank you, Admiral.
(22:08:55) VAdmBlackthorne: Right this way. :: leads the way out the door into the TL ::
(22:10:23) LtLedaHarper: :: Harper takes up the last spot, the better to keep an eye on her commanding officers. ::
(22:10:25) VAdmBlackthorne: Bridge.
(22:10:26) LtKuari: So what's next? Do you have to do research?
(22:11:44) VAdmBlackthorne: :: crosses the bridge into the CR with the party, nodding at Kate to keep the conn ::
(22:12:20) DoctorTav: Well, the Admiral told me it's due to a phase variance, so I don't know if there's anything I can do on my end to keep people from being hurt. It's all about the way the vessels interact with each other.
(22:12:35) VAdmBlackthorne: Please have a seat. :: gestures to the table ::
(22:12:51) VAdmBlackthorne: :: takes his usual seat at the head of the table ::
(22:13:19) VAdmBlackthorne: ACTION> The room is aquamarine in color from the sky windows.
(22:13:24) VAdmBlackthorne: ^outside the windows
(22:13:43) CdrTKirr: :: sits to the usual right ::
(22:15:24) Ot: :: sits somewhat hesitantly :: Thank you. I am Ot as I said, but my birth name was Other 151343.
(22:15:36) LtLedaHarper: :: Harper drops into a seat nearer the door, looking just briefly perplexed, once Ot has settled down. ::
(22:16:16) CdrTKirr: :: perks eyebrow ::
(22:16:23) VAdmBlackthorne: Seems somewhat impersonal.
(22:17:16) Ot: That is precisely the point. In our culture, all individuality is erased. "I" is an unspeakable word, punishable by death.
(22:18:59) VAdmBlackthorne: :: frowns ::
(22:20:32) CdrTKirr: Such a concept would be essential in shaping your culture.
(22:20:46) LtLedaHarper: Is that the cause of your current conflict, sir? :: Harper is tentative, but clear-voiced. ::
(22:22:18) Ot: Yes. Ancient texts have emerged, and despite the government's efforts to stamp them out, they tell of a time when this was not the case.
(22:23:38) Ot: Enough of us have read them and been angered by our current situation
(22:24:51) Ot: As it is now, babies are taken from their parents to be raised by the state. We go to school and are assigned jobs by a Vocational Board.
(22:25:50) Ot: I was good in math and science and wanted to be an engineer, but was assigned to be a cook. Not that cooking isn't vital, but I wished to study warp theory.
(22:26:30) VAdmBlackthorne: That seems like a waste of talent.
(22:26:50) CdrTKirr: Seems "talent" isn't in their vocabulary anymore.
(22:28:09) Ot: :: manages a smile, though it seems foreign :: Our standard military vessels can make warp two or three. The ones I have modified in our fleet can do warp five.
(22:29:18) VAdmBlackthorne: :: nods :: It seems that the vocational council is holding technological development back.
(22:30:06) Ot: I believe it to be intentional.
(22:30:51) CdrTKirr: (( Dun dun DUUUN....))
(22:33:30) LtKuari: :: bobs her head to a song in her head ::
(22:33:53) Ot: I have a friend that is a great artist, which is his crime, since he was assigned to sweep the streets. Even having a friend was a crime since we are not supposed to prefer any of our brothers and sisters over the rest.
(22:33:57) Ot: The great artists sweep the streets. Engineers cook. Musicians command military vessels. State-mandated mediocrity is the norm.
(22:34:35) VAdmBlackthorne: Well, I can certainly see why you fight.
(22:35:19) LtLedaHarper: :: Harper sits back, weighing all of this with an expression of faint surprise. Tactical-like. ::
(22:35:33) CdrTKirr: There must be someone behind this agenda. It would be interesting to find out the reasons behind it.
(22:38:00) Ot: The Confederation is ruled by the Council. Faceless cowards, in my opinion.
(22:40:49) LtLedaHarper: And you've cut loose? :: Harper glances out the window, brow creasing. :: Are you making headway? You're probably putting people with aptitude in command of your ships....
(22:41:17) Ot: :: looks to Harper with a bit of pride :: That we have.
(22:42:05) CdrTKirr: :: idly wonders if Ot can look at several people at once ::
(22:42:26) VAdmBlackthorne: :: looks at his other officers :: While we sympathize with your plight, I'm afraid that it's the policy of our Federation to not interfere in such matters.
(22:42:49) Ot: :: cuts a second set of eyes over to Ian, answering T'Kirr's unspoken question ::
(22:43:37) CdrTKirr: :: shares the odd observance unspokenly with Ian ::
(22:44:13) LtLedaHarper: They did open fire on us, sir. :: Harper folds her hands and studies the table, leaving it at that. ::
(22:46:24) Ot: I did not ask it.
(22:47:04) LtLedaHarper: (( Well. I meant those OTHER guys. The musicians in command of the poor ship we blew to bits. But eh! ))
(22:48:49) VAdmBlackthorne: Yes, they fired on us, and were destroyed for it. But this is not our war to fight.
(22:49:20) VAdmBlackthorne: (one minute, say anything you wanna)
(22:51:59) CdrTKirr: ( I got nothin. )
(22:52:10) VAdmBlackthorne: PAUSE SIM
(22:52:11) VAdmBlackthorne: PAUSE SIM
(22:52:13) VAdmBlackthorne: PAUSE SIM
(22:52:14) DoctorTav: :: pauses ::
(22:52:25) CdrTKirr: :: pauses ::
(22:52:50) LtLedaHarper: :: But I wanna hit the mean people. ::
(22:53:11) CdrTKirr: Yeah. =/
(22:53:34) CdrTKirr: Our heroes..wanting to be heroes.
(22:53:46) CdrTKirr: Will they get the chance?....Stay tuned!
(22:53:57) VAdmBlackthorne: Exactly :)
(22:54:16) LtLedaHarper: Oh, no. We're just going to pack our bags like good little Federates and leave the system.
(22:54:35) DoctorTav: Cue the violins! And the violence! And more violins! AND MORE VIOLENCE! And people rushing to Sickbay!
(22:55:05) CdrTKirr: Thanks for sim, good to be face to face with Ot.
(22:55:23) Ot: Wot.
(22:56:00) DoctorTav: So is Ot's name pronounced more like Ot or Uht?
(22:56:24) Ot: Aht
(22:56:57) DoctorTav: So his full name is Ahther 151343?
(22:57:11) CdrTKirr: Awt.
(22:57:24) DoctorTav: Tomato, tomato.
(22:57:35) DoctorTav: Hmm. That doesn't really work in text.
(22:57:41) CdrTKirr: Why did you just say "tomato" twice? I dont' get it. =P
(22:57:55) Ot: Wot
(22:57:56) DoctorTav: Better if Kuari asked that
(22:57:59) CdrTKirr: All right, good night all. See you next week!
(22:58:08) DoctorTav: Good night, everyone
(22:58:23) LtKuari left the room.
(22:58:25) DoctorTav left the room.
(22:58:50) VAdmBlackthorne: Night folks!
(22:58:53) CdrTKirr left the room.
(23:00:18) LtLedaHarper: mwah!
(23:00:25) Ot left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
