(9:02:42 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: Out of curiosity... would a Cardassian crew member be ill-advised?
(9:04:01 PM) DoctorTav: They put a Klingon on TNG
(9:04:05 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: Like, one who didn't support the occupation, of course.
(9:04:21 PM) DoctorTav: I would rather have a Cardassian than a Kardashian.
(9:04:29 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: Well that goes without saying.
(9:04:58 PM) VAdmBlackthorne: I would have hated it for Bajor if it had been occupied by Kardashians.
(9:05:35 PM) VAdmBlackthorne: To answer the question, I think it's too soon for a Cardie to be in Starfleet.
(9:05:35 PM) DoctorTav: Let me preface what I said with this: I know nothing about the Kardashians, except that when I hear their name I think of the Cardassians. I also know that lots of people enjoy talking about them. I feel I know enough.
(9:05:53 PM) VAdmBlackthorne: youtube SNL Kardashian Christmas
(9:06:33 PM) DoctorTav: I am okay with my current level of knowledge about them. That said, it is SNL.
(9:06:52 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: Did Cardies have, like, diplomatic contact with the Federation, prior to the occupation?
(9:07:28 PM) EnsUrist: I here
(9:07:55 PM) DoctorTav: Not finding it quickly
(9:08:25 PM) EnsUrist: the kardashians: a family of rich girls who are rich because their father is rich and because the oldest one made a sex tape with some rapper, I think was 50ยข
(9:08:44 PM) EnsUrist: also they all have large bums
(9:09:34 PM) DoctorTav: And still more than I needed to know
(9:10:14 PM) CdrHarper [Mibbit@woaq-62-719-65-691.rcmdva.fios.verizon.net] entered the room.
(9:10:40 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: I've been going over all kinds of possibilities for the counselor. The Cardassian one was actually the one I found the most interesting, which is to be expected since it was the least probable >_<
(9:11:07 PM) DoctorTav: For what it's worth, even if it can't be done, I really like the idea

(9:16:39 PM) CdrTKirr: (( However much you would like. Your research here is mostly driving the plot at this point. ))
(9:16:59 PM) VAdmBlackthorne: (No pressure or anything!)
(9:18:10 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: (( so it's safe to assume that bringing the particles on board didn't cleave through everyone's flesh like a hot knife through butter and that the containment fields are actually holding?

(9:28:35 PM) DoctorTav: :: absentmindedly reaches into his desk, pulling out a very special box. He opens it, and pulls out a chocolate treat inside ::
(9:28:55 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: Modeling> We're making good progress, Loo. Another thirty minutes or so.

(9:33:31 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: Chemistry> We have determined with 99.9999% certainty that this particle is synthetic and is not directly related to the wounds of the away team. The particles themselves seem to be completely inert - it is likely that there was a chemical or thermal catalyst.

(9:45:16 PM) CdrTKirr: +Wright+ Very good, we're standing by for your report.
(9:46:25 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: +Bridge+ I'd like to give this report in person - some of this needs to be demonstrated. Shall I report to the Bridge, or conference room, or...?

(10:03:50 PM) VAdmBlackthorne: At ease, at ease.
(10:04:01 PM) DoctorTav: :: pulls out a chair and has a seat ::
(10:04:41 PM) CdrTKirr: :: finds Wright's obvious nervousness slightly amusing and hopes she gets over it soon ::
(10:04:56 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: :: smooths her uniform :: Thank you all for coming. If you're ready for me to begin...?

(10:06:56 PM) VAdmBlackthorne: :: sits back and lets T'Kirr drive the meeting, since it's more sciency anyway ::
(10:07:28 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: Computer, dim lights. Activate holo-emitter. :: the lights dim, and a basketball-sized hologram of the particle appears about a foot above the center of the table :: This is a complete 3D model of the atmospheric particle that we sampled.
(10:07:54 PM) DoctorTav: :: leans in a bit for a better look at the particle ::
(10:08:11 PM) VAdmBlackthorne: :: eyes the particle ::
(10:08:35 PM) CdrTKirr: :: turns her eyes towards the luminescent image ::
(10:10:21 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: :: swipes her fingers to make the hologram enlarge and begin slow rotation :: We have determined with a .0001% margin of error that the particle is synthetic, and they all seem to be completely identical in every way. They are inert and have no energy residue.
(10:10:26 PM) LtKuari: :: spots Harper ::
(10:11:54 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: We are confident that some kind of catalyst activated the particles - to what end we are unsure, but it is possible that the result was the destruction of organic life on these planets - but that they have done whatever they were meant to do and are now expended and slowly dissipating.
(10:12:02 PM) CdrHarper: Hello, Kuari. ::smiles ::
(10:12:22 PM) VAdmBlackthorne: This... was a weapon?
(10:12:54 PM) CdrTKirr: Fascinating.
(10:13:25 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: :: shakes her head :: I cannot say that is the case at this point, sir. Destruction of organic life may have been the result of this, but it may not have been the intention.
(10:13:46 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: It's a possibility, but one of many.
(10:14:30 PM) VAdmBlackthorne: :: frowns, thinking of the Genesis device ::
(10:15:36 PM) CdrTKirr: Spanning at least two planets, and those are just the ones of which we've found a connection. :: looks to Ian :: It seems we're looking for a ship.
(10:15:44 PM) DoctorTav: :: leans back in his seat and steeples his fingers :: So have you figured out how it works?
(10:15:49 PM) VAdmBlackthorne: :: nods :: Agreed.
(10:15:52 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: We have not yet been able to uncover the nature of the relationship between this chemical and the energy beings on the surface. It remains possible that they are not related, but laws of probability makes it unlikely.
(10:17:57 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: :: looks at Tav :: Because we're only seeing it in the depleted state, we can only postulate - we believe that this chemical is used to heavily saturate the surface and atmosphere and then a chemical or thermal catalyst causes them to do whatever they were meant to do, but we have only guesses at this point as to what that might be.
(10:19:18 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: Warfare is one theory, Science Gone Wrong is another, Terraforming, pest control, act of God... we can't really say right now.
(10:19:26 PM) DoctorTav: :: turns his eyes from the hologram and his eyes meet Wright's :: Do you have any clues how it is able to pass through inorganic materials and bone? In McKnight's case, his burns were all the way to the bone.
(10:21:07 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: Well, we were able to determine that this particle is physically dissimilar to whatever wounded McKnight. Whatever the energy beings used to cause physical damage, it wasn't this chemical.
(10:21:17 PM) CdrTKirr: An act of God is unlikely as the particle is synthetic. According to the younger state of the particles orbiting this planet, it's logical that we are moving in the same direction as whoever released it.
(10:21:26 PM) DoctorTav: (( MAGIC EDIT: I DIDN'T SAY ANY OF THE MEDICAL STUFF ))
(10:21:44 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: (( MAGIC EDIT: ME NEITHER, THEN ))
(10:21:47 PM) VAdmBlackthorne: So we need to pick up the trail.
(10:22:20 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: :: nods at T'Kirr :: That was my interpretation as well.
(10:23:57 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: Now that we are more intimately familiar with this chemical, I can scan for it with much higher accuracy. Include probable isotopes and so on. My team is already configuring those scans and should be at your disposal within the hour.
(10:24:40 PM) VAdmBlackthorne: Get them to Commander Harper as soon as possible.
(10:24:50 PM) CdrTKirr: :: nods her approval and looks to Blackthorne ::
(10:24:55 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: If there are no other questions about the chemical at this time, I'd like to move on to our research into the energy beings.
(10:26:01 PM) CdrTKirr: :: remains silent ::
(10:26:28 PM) VAdmBlackthorne: :: nods and listens ::
(10:26:29 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: :: looks around and sees no objections :: Computer, lights to normal. :: stands as the lights come up ::
(10:28:20 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: As I said a few moments ago, we have so far been unable to make any progress into the origin and nature of the energy beings. We do not have enough data to determine whether energy shielding will be of any use. We did, however, make progress on the Colonel's suggestion for possible offensive weaponry.
(10:29:28 PM) LtJGAlexisWright: :: unlatches and opens the slim metal case, lifting out a modified phaser :: This is a prototype based on the energy disruption research that was thought to be effective against holograms.

Science leads the way through tests to determine defensive and offensive strategies against the phantasmic creatures, and the probe sample of the particles is being analyzed.
LtJGAlexisWright: The idea is that the beings seem to require a greater organization of their energy patterns to effect physical damage, thus disrupting those patterns would theoretically work to prevent them from reaching that level of organization. :: hands the phaser to the Admiral, pointing out the subtle modifications ::
